Before to start with a new bunch of 2017 rumors. Let’s do this: This is a roundup of statements and hints revealed or hinted by Sony itself that reveal what could happen in 2017:

Next generation A7 cameras:
Sony told Jeff Remas dual card slot FE cameras are coming

16-35mm f/2.8 GM:
Sony photographer hints the new 16-35mm GM is really coming

A-mount lenses:
Sony is conducting surveys to establish what lens they need to develop for the A-mount system. And they also told Dan M Lee they will refresh some of their current lenses. This proves once more that A-mount isn’t a dead system :)

85mm A-mount Zeiss:
Sony removed it from the main A-mount page.

Medium Format:
Sony has no plan to go medium format yet.

Autofocus:
Sony acknowledged they have to improve the autofocus speed to match the best in the class.

STF lens:
Mr. Motoyuki Otake from Sony said an STF FE lens is in the works.

Megapixel race:
Sony confirmed the Megapixel number will increase on the next generation cameras.

One more thing: Sigma FE:
Sigma CEO confirmed they are developing FE lenses.

(SR5) Sony will announce a new “budget” 85mm FE lens in 2017

Ok we got our first SR5 rumors of the year (highly reliable source and 90% chance the information is correct). To not miss more of those rumors subscribe our RSS feed, join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

This is the info I got from a reliable source: Sony will launch a new “budget” 85mm FE lens in 2017. The source didn’t unveil the aperture of the lens. He only said it will be a companion for the 50mm f/1.8 ([shopcountry 54647]). I guess this one will have an f/1.8 aperture too.

The two FE lenses that are coming in 2017 for sure are:

1) 16-35mm f/2.8 GM FE
2) 85mm f/1.8 FE (aperture is unconfirmed but I think almost certainly right)

And for sure there will be many more new FE lenses in 2017 (including telephoto lenses). I hope to get info about those soon…

This info has been posted on SonyAlphaRumors first. Please do not repost without credit. Thanks :)

(UPDATED) Sony A77II is NOT discontinued

While BHphoto still has the A77II in Stock s strange note appeared saying this:

Bad news: Sony Alpha a77II has been discontinued. Good news: Our experts are standing by to help you find a replacement. Call 800.606.6969 or Live Chat during business hours.

UPDATE: BHphoto contaced us to say that this was a mistake from their side. The A77II is NOT discontinued.

Anyway, the line has a 3 year cycle and the A77II was announced in 2014. So maybe a new successor is on the line. I expect the new A77III to use a new 24MP sensor and new autofocus system. Would be nice if Sony would also give us some new A-mount lens too!

Surprise! Hasselblad Acquired By DJI !

Luminous Landscape reports via trusted sources that Hasselblad got acquired By well-known chinese drone maker DJI ! We have yet no idea what DJI plans are but LL made an analogy that gives us some hope:

In all fairness, another Swedish iconic company – Volvo, is now owned by Chinese investors and  Volvo’s new models promise really well – if they sell. So there is hope. Or is this simply a brandname takeover?

Hasselbad always had a close to relation with Sony. And I also wonder if something will change here too…I guess the answer is no.

See that gigantic 17.875 inches wide Sony CLEDIS screen (might be a new way to display your photo)

Image: Nicholas Stango/Gizmodo

Many PRO photographers use to make large prints of their photos when doing exhibitions. But this could change thanks to a new Sony CLEDIS technology displayed by Sony at CES this year. Gizmodo writes:

Each tile is just 17.875 inches wide, and stitched together, they could build you a wall of infinite size. The above display is 36 feet by 9 feet, at a resolution of 8K by 2K.

Of course this is just an expensive prototype yet. But in a couple of years this may be the tech used to show your pictures….

Sony press conference today at 5pm Las Vegas time: They will show new CLEDIS prototype screens

Today(January 4th at 5:00pm Las Vegas time) Sony will live stream a press conference from the CES show. There is almost zero chance Sony will announce a new camera or lens. Instead our sources told us to expect them to show a new prototype of “CLEDIS TV screens”. These are rumored to be even better than OLED TV’s;

New E-mount lenses are more likely to be announced by early February before the CP+ show in Japan.
