Sony take note: Nikon has a new “WOW” lens in their line: 105mm f/1.4

The new Nikon 105mm f/1.4 versus the [shoplink 48572]Zeiss 135mm f/1.8 A-mount lens[/shoplink]

Nikon will soon announce one of those new kind of products Sony should really “clone” as soon as it gets! On August 26 they will announce a new 105mm f/1.4 lens that will be priced around $2,200. This is one of those lenses that unleashes a highly “I want it” gear acquisition syndrome. I guess Sony is currently developing an E-mount version of their equally exciting [shoplink 48572]Zeiss 135mm f/1.8 A-mount lens[/shoplink]. But let’s see if a faster 105mm lens would be welcomed by our community:

Should Sony make a 135mm f/1.4 FE lens priced at $2,000-$2,500?

(SR5) Venus Optics will launch a new “E-mount Magic Shift Converter”!

The new Laowa 12mm f/2.8 E-mount lens on the Sony A7s

As I reported yesterday on July 30 Venus Optics will Kickstart a new Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Full Frame lens that will be available for both Sony mounts (A and E). We now got confirmations that there is now an additional special additional product for the E-mount folk:

It will be a E-mount Magic Shift Converter to convert the lens from 12mm f/2.8 (DSLR) into 17mm f/4 with +/- 10mm SHIFT & 360 rotation (Full Frame E-mount). The glass elements inside the converter ENLARGE the image circle of the lens in order to fulfil the shifting! See attached photo:

This is a very NEW thing in the market!

Price increase on Sony cameras and lenses confirmed for all Europe

I can now confirm via multiple sources that Sony is set to increase the price in the whole Eurozone area (including UK). One of the sources added an interesting note:

Due to exchange rate movements almost all camera products will increase in price by around 10%. However the August date for the increase may not be so true as Sony are trying to wait for the competition to raise there prices first. It seems that Sony don’t want to be seen as the bad company that started it. So now it is like a poker game to see which company will show their hand first.

(UPDATED) New Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Full Frame A and E-mount lens to be launched on Kickstarter on July 30!

Venus Optics will soon launch a new lens that will come in two different Sony mounts (A and E-mount). It’s the Laowa 12mm f/2.8! This is their second lens after the really great 105mm STF lens (here on BH). UPDATE: The lens will be launched on Kickstarter to get the necessary fundings.

A long shot speculation: Olympus to join the E-mount system?

Just recently Olympus published a surprising patent describing a set of new lenses designed for a Full Frame mirrorless system camera:

17mm f/1.4 (7 cm total lens lenght)
25mm f/1.4 (8 cm total lens lenght)
25mm f/1.4 (13 cm total lens lenght)
28mm f/1.4 (13 cm total lens lenght)
35mm f/1.4 (13 cm total lens lenght)
50mm f/1.4 (13 cm total lens lenght)

As you know Olympus has no such system yet. And in the light of the Sony-Olympus partnership it is not impossible to imagine Olympus to join the Sony E-mount system. It would certainly a very big news for the system if that would happen! There are three possibilities for Olympus:

  1. They will launche their own FF system (which in my opinion makes little sense)
  2. They could make Zuiko lenses (or sell the lens designs to Sony) for the E-mount system
  3. They could join the E-mount system with their own branded cameras and lenses

I hope point 3 comes true, I think Olympus would greatly improve the attractively of the E-mount system!

(SR4) Zeiss FE roadmap: 5 Batis and 5 Loxia by end 2016!

A very good source shared an info he got from a Zeiss manager. He said “Zeiss’s target is to have 5 Loxia and 5 Batis by end 2016.”

I do hope Zeiss will also increase the production to make them available as soon as it gets!
