(SR3) Possible Sony announcement between June 8th and 10th

sony-alpha

I got this from a source:

Dealers will get informed about new Products (camera and lenses) on the 8th of June 16. They will have sign NDA papers. So shortly after the 8th there will be an announcement by Sony.

I don’t think Sony will announce the A9 yet. There is a bit more chance to get a newentry level RX or entry level A5xxx camera. And maybe finally the 70-200mm GM price and shipment info.

Tony Northup calls the A-mount a dead system

On the video above our dear colleges Tony & Chelsea Northrup tried to predict the future of photography. And if you watch the video from minute 21 they are calling the dead of many systems including the Sony A-mount. Tony doesn’t advice anyone to buy into A-mount.

Now of course this is his very personal prediction. Officially Sony stated multiple times that they will keep developing the A-mount system. But in the past two years we got a couple of discouraging facts:

  • Many countries do not sell A-mount anymore (example Australia and Taiwan and many other Asian countries)
  • The last 24 months we got only one new A-mount camera (the A68)
  • On major shows (CES, CP+ and so on) Sony hardly advertise the A-mount system

I do certainly believe Sony will release A-mount products this year. But it’s really hard to tell if A-mount will be still alive in 3-4 years from now….

Christian Schätzle proves the next Loxia lens will be around 1cm longer than the 21mm Loxia.

Loxiabag

As you may know Zeiss recently announced a new special case for Loxia lenses (available for $386 on BHphoto). The case is made to carry four Loxia lenses. Which means there is one more Loxia lens to be announced soon as we only have three in the range yet:
Loxia 21mm at [shopcountry 46456].
Loxia 35mm at [shopcountry 47046].
Loxia 50mm at [shopcountry 47047].

SAR readers Christian Schätzle got the chance to “test” the new Loxia bag and actually discovered a small interesting detail. The fourth “free spot” is actually around 1cm deeper than the 21mm Loxia spot (which is the longest lens of the three). This is another small indirect confirm that the next lens will be a tele lens (85mm likely) with 8cm lens length. Here is the video he shared today:

(SR5) Kumamoto earthquake aftermath: No Sony ILCE camera shipment til late July in Australia

A source working for a major Australian store told me that due the Kumamoto earthquake that halted the Sony sensor production for over one month we will get the following camera shipment delay:

1. Nikon DL compacts are delayed till October
2. Limited production and supply of D750, D810
3. Not expecting new shipments of all Sony ILCE until late July or August

That is very bad news. I guess this also means there will be no new A7m3 or A99II or A9 product announcement in June/July.

(SR1) Next medium format rumor by CineMartin

alpa100MP

Alpa camera with the new IQ3 100MP System with Sony sensor

SAR readers sent me a link to a “rumor” from CineMartin. They claim they got an info via a Sony Japan contact that a medium format camera will be announced at IBC 2016:

Sony working to release new 65mm DSLR style camera to compete with Hasselblad. Email received from Sony Japan source. New Sony camera will provide 120MP photos, video at 4K 60p and +15 stops of dynamic range. Sensor to have a size of 51.10 mm x 27.11 mm. CMOS. To be announced at IBC 2016. Price to be in the range..

I found that rumor very unlikely to become true…

(SR4) 70-200mm GM price confirmed ot be around 3.000 Euro

FE70-200mmGM

I have been told the price listed by Kamerahuset.dk is the right one. The Danish Krone price equals to around 3.000 Euro (or $3350). Of course you have to expect the real Euro or Dollar price to be slightly different due the different tax system. Interesting details of the Kamerahuset image on top: It uses one of the new FE teleconverters (the 2.x).

70-200mm GM lens is listed with no preorders option at Amazon US, BHphoto, BestBuy, Digitalrev.
Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter at BHphoto.
Sony FE 2.0x Teleconverter BHphoto.
