A few days ago I told that trusted sources told me that Sony is about to announce a new High End camera. But other than that I have no reliable info about the possible specs of it. In those last couple of days I got some info from anonymous sources which I think are at 99% wrong. But I figured that you might want to read what I got in my mail box. Maybe a miracle will happen and one of those will get true one day :)

I wanted to tell you that I saw a new mounting system on a lens. It was not A or E mount nor Nikon or Canon but advertised as for Sony. Judging from the specs of the lens it is for Full Frame 35mm, but a pinch smaller.
The engineers told me they can not disclose what for it is…

I believe there will be a CML (compact mirror less) “A9” or “A7-Pro” with BSI 56-58 Mp (effective) in appr.late November. Also a mirror less A 99 II with same BSI sensor 56-58 Mp. OLED-EVF! In spring 2016 an A 88 II, equiv to Pentax K 1 FF, will appear. Same BSI sensor but scaled down to 42 or 36 Mp. Sony now uses only two FF sensors – one BSI appr 60 Mp, one FSI appr 50 Mp. All FF cameras are scaled from those.

The new secret weapon camera to be unleashed is a medium format Rx style camera with changeable lenses and evf.
It comes with the Sony 50 Mp backlit sensor and instead of zooms it will have a 50mm, 80mm and 150mm primes. It is aimed at landscape artists. A new 55mm lens is also being made which will have tilt/shift to facilitate architectural photography which requires a high format and tabletop photos for ads.

It only rarely happens that anonymous sources are spot on with rumors. Last time this happened was in January when a source shared the Zeiss Batis lens specs. id dint’ belive him…but at the end he was 100% spot on!
Planet5D posted that video interview with Conversation with Michael Schielhlen, Senior Director from Zeiss. There are a couple of info to share:
1) Michael said that Sony is very popular in Germany. In August for the very first time Sony sold more interchangeable cameras than Nikon and Canon!
2) Zeiss is already working on the third Batis lens development
3) For both Batis and Loxia lenses the next interesting focal lengths are super wide and 135 and 200mm focal lengths
4) Zeiss is surprised by the huge demand of Batis lenses
There is no official way to know how popular the Sony E-mount system is in all countries. It would certainly be interesting to know how sales are in Europe, Asia and US. All I do to check the current “popularity” of cameras is to visit the Amazon sales rankings. And you can notice some differences between countries:
Amazon USA (Click here) shows that DSLR cameras are still the big sellers although Sony is doing quite fine with their A6000 and A7sII cameras.
Amazon Germany (Click here) shows a more homogeneous ranking were both Sony mirrrorless and Nikon/Canon DSLR seem to sell equally fine.
But really that’s not e scientific metric to measure success. Maybe the next Sony financial report will give us some more detailed clue about the recent A7rII and A7sII sales.

An imaginary Sony A9 camera
Our A68 rumor were spot on and hopefully also the next A6xxx camera rumor will soon get real too. But today’s rumor is about something completely different and possibly “unexpected”. It’s a rumor I got first 8 months ago but I can now finally post it with a bit more reliable confidence. It’s a very “difficult” rumor as little is known about that new camera. So please read carefully!
A new “secret” camera model (Top trusted Source 1):
One of my very top trusted sources who shared the correct A68 info confirmed there is a new A6xxx camera coming. But more importantly he told me this: Sony told him they have a new “secret” camera model. It’s “secret” because very few people know about it. Out side Sony Tokyo no Sony employee or manager knows about that camera. He told me: “I heard Special Model but all I know is that it will be released in the second half of the financial year. This means between October and March.”
The same source shared correct info in the past so I am pretty certain Sony will launch that camera (if they do not delay it like the A6xxx). Now the big question, what is that camera? I am yet not sure but a second reliable source shared some insight many months ago.
Some hints about the “secret” camera (Top trusted Source 2):
A second trusted source told me that this camera is a real surprise and not an evolution of an existent camera. It’s really a “revolution” more than an “evolution” (those were his exact words). For privacy reason he cannot share specs but said the camera is “very high-end”.
I hope sources will read this post and share more tidbits if they have them. But as far as I know only Sony Tokyo knows exactly what that camera will be. So dear SAR readers, now unleash your fantasy and tell me what you are dreaming about. Is that a new A99II, A9 or possibly even a new RX medium format camera? Dream ;)

A reader just sent me this message. For privacy reason I removed the name of the store which is one of the biggest in Europe:
I went into (
Store name hidden) yesterday to test out a few FE lenses yesterday and to pick me up a 16-35 f/4. He asked me if I didn’t mind waiting a couple of months. I said explain.
That’s when he turned his till terminal screen to face me and asked if I wanted the lens pion their incoming inventory list… It was the Sony FE 16-35mm F/2.8. Naturally in response i said someone has mistyped put FE instead of ‘A’ mount. He went off again, came back with management back-up and stated its accurate even though they haven’t physically seen one yet.
He stated that because of their buying status with manufactures they get wind of what’s coming and place their orders accordingly… This was one of them and is due before Christmas…
So far we don’t know for sure what new zoom lens will be announced from Sony. All we know is that Sony stated many times fast f/2.8 zooms are high on their priority list. And the info coming in via anonymous sources seems to confirm that they will make f/2.8 zoom of all their current FE zooms whcih are the:

One of our readers noticed that the A77m2 SLT mirror part has been marked as “no longer available” at Andrews Electronic. Not sure though this is just the store that will stop doing the camera reparation or if that it’s a worldwide stop of translucent mirror production.
