Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 price shows up in Europe: 1149€ ???

Share

A French store is now showing the price of the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 FE lens. I am not 100% certain if that’s the right and final price but I have been “hinted” it’s quite close :)
If confirmed this means it costs less than half the price of the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 which sells for 2450€ at Amazon Germany!

Let's assume the Tamron price is really 1149€ (could be $1199 or $1299 in USA). Would you buy the lens?

WILD RUMOR: New Sony RX100 rumored to feature a new wider 20-200mm wide angle lens?

Share

UPDATED: Three different anonymous sources sent me this:

Source 1:

Sony will announce a new RX100 before the olympic games.
The sensor stays the same 20MP sensor
The major upgrade is in the Lens. It will feature a new 10x zoom lens of 7.4-75mm
Other minor improvements include:
The external connections will be unified to USB C
The internal flash is replaced by a hot shoe
Revised controls with one additional button

Source 2:

I wanted to share that Sony developed a new wider angle lenses for large sensor compact cameras. It will start at 16mm or 20mm (6 / 7.5mm real focal distance).
I am not sure if this will be for a new product or an overhaul for the RX0, Rx10 or RX100.

Source 3:

The case will see the first major case redesign in years.
The built in Flash is removed, but a new flash box (as big as a matchbox) powered by the camera will be introduced.
Also a new grip/tripod with a spare battery will be introduced along the camera
The camera will have the newest AF modes
it will record 4k60 for 5min.
USB C is accompanied by Mic and Headphone jack
Introduction of a new live streaming mode via WLAN
New built in beauty mode also in video
One additional button on the back and one on the top

There are actually two versions of the lens designed. A 20-200mm f2.8 and a 16-50mm f1.4.
Now the sad news: Because of the corona outbreak production that was supposed to start in Jan/Feb is delayed for at least for months.

Please note that I marked this rumor as “WILD” which means no trusted source has yet confirmed it. So take it with a big grain of salt. If you can confirm or deny this rumor please drop me a message using this anonymous contact form or by contacting me at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com.

First short Tamron 70-180mm autofocus test shows it works extremely fast!

all Tamron FE lenses side by side via ValueTech

The new Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 FE lens uses an improved AF motor that works faster than the one used on the current 28-75mm FE. And today we can finally see it in action!

The German youtuber Valuetech posted the first quick autofocus test (watch from minute 2):

Seems to work very fast and accurately! Not bad if you consider they used the “older” Sony A7rIII af system and a prototype lens.

Sony 20mm f/1.8 Hands On Review by Albert Dros

The first new Sony FE Lens of 2020! Here’s the 20mm f/1.8. Not an ultra wide prime, but a nice little fast wide angle that could be great for a number of uses. Sony asked me to try this lens out for a few days. One week in between 2 trips and during the moving of my house, my first response was : “sure!” . The bad weather in the Netherlands certainly didn’t help much, but I managed to test the lens in a variety of conditions. In this little article I’ll be addressing my first responses after having tried this lens for a few days.

Design

First things first: It’s tiny! And light! It’s great to see Sony really pushing the size of mirrorless for what it was meant: smaller and lighter. This lens follows the design of the 24mm GM, and is surprisingly no GM lens, but merely a G. We might also see this reflect on the price tag :) (I don’t know the retail price yet). Being a G lens, this lens still looks quite identical to the 24mm GM lens. It has a similar design, has a dedicated ring for the Aperture (nice for video), has a dedicated AF/MF switch and is small and tiny like the 24mm.
