The competition is making their move: 8K cameras from Canon and Sharp!

Share

Sony’s competition isn’t sleeping and there are quite some news to report:

Sharp:
This is a surprise. Sharp is the first company announcing an 8K mirrorless system camera. It has a MFT mount and full specs will be unveiled at NAB show in April. The cool thing is that it has a 5inch flip out screen. Would lo ve to get that one on a Sony! More info at MirrorlessRumors.

Canon:
Canon officially confirmed that “8K video capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap”. More info at CanonWatch.

Nikon:
Nikon announced a new update Z lens roadmap. I love those f/1.8 primes and I think Sony should make them too! More info at Nikoneye.
Nikon also said that it will add Eye AF, Raw video on Z6-Z7 cameras via firmware upgrade. More info at Mirrorlessrumors.

Panasonic:
Panasonic confirmed their S1-S1R cameras will have HLG stills shooting mode. More info at L-rumors.

To sum up the “features” Sony doesn’t have right now and that the competition “announced”:
– 8K video
– 5 inch flip out screen
– f/1.8 primes
– RAW video
– HLG stills

Take note Sony…

New Kipon FE lenses reviewed at SonyAlphaBlog

Share

Marc Alhadeff tested four of the new kipo Full Frame and manual focusing E-mount lenses:

Kipon Iberit 24mm F2.4 (review here, order at Amazon US, Amazon DE, Amazon UK):

The Kipon Iberit 24mm F2.4 (350$) is a little bit disappointing : quality issues (decentering) and soft corners are an issue below F5.6.
For a wide angle you will often use it for landscape or street photography and you will need to close to F8-F11 to get good results
On the opposite side you still get the very good color rendition, soft blurry background and excellent sharpness in the centre, so good to be used at F2.4 for small groups or portraits shoot
Consider it as the natural complement to all other Iberit lenses for excellent portraits but not as a generalist 24mm

Kipon Iberit 35mm F2.4 (review here, order at Amazon US, Amazon DE, Amazon UK):

The Kipon Iberit 35mm F2.4 (375$) is a really nice 35 for street photographe and portrait
Like all other Ibertit his strong points are its centre sharpness, its very good color rendition and background blur which makes it ideal for portrait
The Aperture of 2.4 may seems modest but I prefer a very good F2.4 than an average F1.8

Kipon Iberit 50mm F2.4 (review here, order at Amazon US, Amazon DE, Amazon UK):

The Kipon Iberit 50mm F2.4 (325$) is a very good 50mm portrait/street photography lens but not necessary a universal 50mm
The Aperture of 2.4 may seems modest but I prefer a very good F2.4 than an average F1.8

Kipon Iberit 75mm F2.4 (review here, order at Amazon US, Amazon DE, Amazon UK):

The Kipon Iberit 75mm F2.4 is a real gem and a fantastic manual lens for the price (300$)
It is a excellent for portrait and there is currently no other 75mm For Sony E mount
The Aperture of 2.4 may seems modest but I prefer a very good F2.4 than an average F1.8

Tony Northrup believes Sony will launch a 60mm f/0,94 autofocus GM lens in 2019 to annoy Nikon

Share

Tony Northrup shared his 2019 predictions. While the A7000, A7sIII and A9sII predictions sound quite reasonable Tony added an unexpected bomb: He believes Sony will make a super fast autofocus lens.

Now call me crazy, but I do believe this would indeed make sense!

Of course Sony would not make any profit from such a lens. It would be expensive to make, expensive to sell and nearly nobody on this planet would buy it. But It would stop Nikon managers to keep bashing on the Sony mount. And forums, blogs and trolls would suddenly have no more arguments. So yes Sony, let’s show Nikon have we do a proper superfast autofocus lens!
