Image Quality test: Sony A7rIV vs the Sony A7rIII

Share

ISO 50 comparison

Imaging Resource added the Sony A7rIV to their Comparometer Tool. My first impressions:

  1. Of course the new A7rIV produces sharper images
  2. Don’t know why…but on the images posted by Imaging  Resource  the A7rIV colors seem to be more “natural” looking.
  3. At  higher ISO the A7rIV images are  noisier….but still sharper

Pixel Shift

And Albert Dros tested the A7rIV PIxel  Shift mode:

The 16 shot pixel shift functions works great if you want a crazy amount of detail. Use cases would be architectural photography and still life. I’m not sure if I will use it a lot in the field. To be honest: probably not. But I definitely would like to experiment with this more. The amount of extra detail and resolution you get from the 16 shot pixel shift is too significant to ignore and deserves a try to implement it in my workflow.

Sony announced this October 12/13 “Premium event” in Tokyo

Share

Sony Japan has officially announced a “Premium Event” for October 12/13. They say  they will display all latest gear like the Sony A7rIV, A6100, A6600 and lenses.

But I am yet not sure on that date we will see the new Sony A9II too. Currently we heard that there are multiple events with sports photographers in different locations and different time periods. So it’s hard to say now when exactly in October the A9II will be announced.

What we know so far:
100% chance Sony will announce the new Sony A9II in October
60% chance the A9II has a new 36 Megapixel sensor

Like I told you many times…I don’t  think we can expect new E-mount gear today. The next two livestream events will be more interesting:

1)  On September 13 there will be camcorder announcements  at the IBC show  in Amsterdam. There might be a new FF E-mount camcorder too?

2)  In  October we will have another event for the Sony A9II !!!

UPDATE: They announced this new Xperia 5 with triple camera and EyeAF

(SR5) Sony will DEFINITELY announce the new Sony A9II in early October

Share

Image on top is  just a Sony A9II mockup!

Back in early August we told you three cameras would be announced soon: 2 new APS-C cameras in late August (rumor here) and 1 new FF camera in September October (rumor here). We were spot on with these rumors and today I can share you the most “reliable” rumor I posted this year:

YES the new Sony A9II is coming within weeks!!!
I am now 100% SURE Sony will announce the new Sony A9II in late early October. I got clear evidence supporting this but I cannot for obvious reason share it to you. Trust me on this rumor I will NOT be proven wrong ;)

And now a small correction on yesterday’s SR3 ranked rumor:
Sony has indeed a smaller “closed door” event for professional Sports photographers in mid September (as reported  yesterday). But we now heard the official journalist open event will be hold in late September/early October.

What we know so far:
100% chance there will be a journalist press meeting in early October
100% chance Sony will  announce the new Sony A9II
60% chance the A9II has a new 36 Megapixel sensor

What else can we expect?
I got no info about new lenses that might be announced on that event. But I think it would make sense if  Sony would announce some new sports glass along the A9II.

So please stay tuned,  I will tell you  more about this A9II as soon as “I can” :)
