Message for our sources

Share

I have a bunch of messages for our sources (AXL, Tip. and the others).

1) I havn’t received any confirmation from other sources about the exact A77 launch date in July. But I am going to post the rumor soon with SR4 value.
2) I received the final price of the A77 with kit lens from three different sources. Last question. What kind lens do you mean? The current 18-55mm or the rumored new constant aperture lens?
3) Can you confirm the 26 May lens announcement? Is the 24mm f/1.7 Zeiss coming too?
4) Some news about the NEX-C3 and A35 possible announcement date?

Thanks!

P.S.: You can use the contact form on the right sidebar to send us anonymous messages. Please be patient. I try to double check rumors before to post them. I want to avoid to post false rumors. Thanks for your understanding

What should Sony learn from the Fuji X100?

Share

Sony delayed the A35 and NEX-C3 announcements and there is still a bit to wait before we can see the new Sony A77 and NEX-7 in July. But also Nikon (a part the Nikon D5100), Canon, Olympus and Panasonic didn’t announce any new camera. The only camera manufacturer that is getting a lot of attentions around the web is Fuji. Since months every website is talking about the Fuji X100. The question I have to all SonyAlphaRumors readers is:

Should Sony make a medium format camera of some sort (fixed lens or interchangeable mount?

I think the X100 is an “overstimated” camera. The hybrid viewfinder is a bit a pain to use (see focusing problems) and the fixed lens is quite a limitation if you consider the price of the camera. What I really like is the build quality and the manual controls. But I am curious to see what you think about the X100!

P.S: Check the Fuji X100 price and availability at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, eBay.

Tamron 60mm and Samyang 35mm reviews (+ Kowa 55mm f/1.0)

Share

Kurtmunger (Click here) tested the Tamron 60mm f/2.0 macro lens for Sony: “I would highly recommend the Tamron 60mm F/2 lens when used out in the field at longer distances, where F/2 can come in handy for getting a defocused background, or hand-held available light situations.  For people wanting a good macro lens with plenty of working distance, and will be using it at close focus, I’d recommend the Sony 100mm macro.

On Dpreview forum (Click here) a user tested the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 on the NEX-5.

P.S.: “jieying” made four new reworked Kowa 55mm f/1.0 lenses for NEX. He is selling them on eBay (Click here).

Mails from our readers

1) Adam: “I thought you might like to see a personal short film I just finished that was shot on an NEX-5 using the Lensbaby Tilt Transformer and Nikon 50mm f/1.4.
I’ve uploaded it Vimeo and Youtube (I personally find the quality of video often looks better on Vimeo but many more people seem to visit Youtube)

Anyway… I hope you like it. Would love you get some feedback.” Editor’s note: you can see the embedded video on top!

Sony deals in US (+ new deals for teacher and students)

Share

Sony is putting Canon and Nikon under pressure. Look at those US deals:

1) Bhphoto created that nice Sony rebates page (Click here). You can see the full list of deals. And there are so many of them! Like that nice A850+lens deal for example (Click here). The same deals are also ongoing on other stores like Amazon, Adorama and J&R. But they didn’t display them as good as BH did.

2) There is an additional Full-time Student/ Photography “Teacher” Rebate at Adorama: http://www.adorama.com/pdfs/rebates/40A-0802_Alpha_Rebate_9_2011_v4.pdf
$250 back on the purchase of any A900 (Click here)
$150 back on the purchase of any A850 (Click here)
$75 back on both the A55 and A580 (Click here)
Added to the current instant rebates out there on the web you so prominently feature, anyone with the access to a Full-time student or photography teacher would be wise to take advantage of this opportunity while it exists!  Covers the entire range of lenses as well… (Thanks Nolan for sending me the deal news!)

Just a reminder for our (lucky) US readers. Most curreny Sony cameras are discounted:
-$50 on the A580 at Amazon, Adorama, B&H and J&R.
-$50 on the A55 at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
-$50 on the A33 at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
-$50 on the NEX-5 at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
-$50 on the NEX-3 at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.

(SR3) Sony leaks the A77 name

Share

UPDATE: That rumor comes from an external website. There is no way I can check if the rumor is correct or not. But I can guarantee the specs of the A77 I posted from my sources are almost certainly correct ;)

Inside the latest Sony consumer repair guide the A77 camera is listed (It costs $359 to repair it?).

A reminder. Tose are the specs of the camera we found through our sources:

The A77 is coming in mid July
Shipment start early October
Coming with new kit lens (A Sony 16-50mm zoom. Compared to the Zeiss 16-80mm f/3.5-4.5 it will have a constant aperture and probably have a bit higher price. Zeiss 16-80mm price check at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, eBay.)
24 Megapixels (The combination of the new sensor+new Zeiss lens delivers 62% more resolution than the A55 16 Megapixel sensor.)
1080p/30fps, 720p/60fps and 720p/30fps high-definition video
AF fine-tuning capabilities. A source told us that it has an improved focusing system (quite fast and accurate).
3 Million dot OLED viewfinder (more than double of the resolution fo the current Sony A55/33 viewfinder.)
magnesium alloy
According to our sources it will be a little bit more expensive than the 60D. Canon 60D price check at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, eBay
It will take CF+SD+MS cards
No flip-up mode to allow shooting without this extra sheet of glass in place
1.000 pictures with one battery

Samyang starts shipment of the 8mm fisheye for NEX (where can we find it?)

Share

Samyang is now shipping the 8mm for NEX. I looked around but I didn’t find any store having it available for preorder. Usually you can find them on eBay (Click here). Let me know if you can find the lens somewhere! Thanks!

That’s the official Samyang press release:
Krakow, May 5TH 2011.
Delta company, the sole distributor of Samyang products for Europe is proud to announce that Samyang 8mm f/3.5 FISH-EYE CS VG10 designed especially for Sony NEX-VG10, has been released for retail sale at price of EUR 299
Samyang 8mm f/3.6 Fish-eye CS VG10 is equipped with a bayonet Sony E  mount and was designed for digital camcorder Sony NEX-VG10. Due to the camcorder’s one-off construction, the bayonet mount was carefully adjusted to ensure possibly widest field of vision and prevent vignetting. Just like in other lenses constructed for filming purposes, aperture adjustment is perfectly smooth.
Warranty
8mm f/3.6 Fish-eye CS VG10 lens is under 36-months warranty.
Price
Samyang 8mm f/3.6 Fish-eye CS VG10 – EUR 299 (gross)
