Sony A9 with overheating test with new firmware

Share

ThatCameraGuy tested the new 1.01 A9 firmware. And as suspected it doesn’t fix the overheating itself. But it delays the overheating indicator warning time so that it doesn’t appear 10 minutes before the actual shutdown. Note that most people will not keep the camera all time on a 90 Degree Fahrenheit (32 Degree Celsius) hot day under direct sunlight and always on. Moreover even if you do it you will not let the camera standing alone. But you will cover it somehow with your hands while operating the camera, and also make some shadow with your body. Also note that it seems like having the battery grip completely solves the problem!

Sony has still not re-published the new firmware on their support site.

One more overheating test with new firmware by Ron Simon:

The Angry Photographer also tested the A9 overheating problem. He got no issue at all:

ThatCameraGuys confirms A9 overheating with second A9 camera (issue solved when using the battery grip)

Share

ThatCameraGuy tested a second A9 camera and even that camera got the same overheating issue. At around 93-95 degrees, under direct sunlight and constant use the camera did shut down completely after 20 minutes. And when he used the battery grip with extending temperature option “ON” he had no overheating problem. ThatCameraGuy stressed to say that beside that one issue the camera “Is a Knockout”.
Note: He did not use the new 1.01 firmware update which should mitigate or in best case even eliminate the issue. The new firmware update that Sony released and then pulled off today will be re-released soon. Fingers crossed this will put an end to this story :)

Competition rumor: Fuji will buy Nikon shares to save them from troubles?

Share

It’s no secret that Nikon is suffering big losses in the camera market. And unlike so many other companies Nikon depends very much from the camera business. Now here come the unexpected rumor posted by Fujirumors:

Japanese government is directly involved in finding a company that can help Nikon. Hatenablog.com says here that Fujifilm is one of the companies that could possibly “help” Nikon.

Previously there were some wild speculations that Sony could be involved too. But the Hatena report does not specifically mention Sony. Sony already once bought a stake into Olympus to help out their financial mess. I guess that the main goal of a Fuji-Nikon partnership would be the same as the one of the Sony-Olympus collaboration: Cost reduction…cost reductiond and again cost reduction.

UPDATE: The Story got written by Sentaku (June issue magazine) which is a highly reputable source in Japan. Already back in April Sentaku they wrote:

Companies from Taiwan, South Korea and China reportedly are considering acquiring Nikon. Experts say if its financial situation further deteriorates

Still no news about that Sony China camera launch teaser…

Share

Ten days ago Sony China launched that teaser for a new camera launch. But we still got no news about the camera specs. By the way, this is a legit teaser. They made the same a year ago for the A6300 launch (teaser here).

There was some very wild speculation on the forum that this might be a new A5100 successor rather than an RX camera. But really, I have no info yet on that.
