Lensmate launches new thumb grip for the Sony A6300

lensmate

Lensmate just released their new A6300 Thumb Grip which you can now buy at Amazon US (Click here).

Description:

  • We designed the Lensmate Sony a6300 Folding Thumbrest to allow easy access to all of the buttons, and to quickly get out of the way when you need to get to the top dials. A light push with the thumb swings the rest 40° out from the camera and a light action ball detent keeps the Thumbrest in the opened or closed position. Weight 9 grams or 1/3 of an ounce. Available in black.
  • The sculpted thumbrest relaxes your grip on the camera, reduces camera shake and allows slower shutter speeds. Makes one handed operation easier and prevents unintentional button presses.
  • Camera specific design retains access to all controls and does not effect operation of built in flash or articulated LCD screen.
  • Integrated silicone insert provides both thumb grip and bumper between the rest and camera body and the silicone insert in the hot shoe tab provides resistance to unintentional ejection. Machined out of solid 6061 Aluminum rod, then bead blasted for texture and anodized for a tough finish.
  • We suggest using the Lolumina Mini stick on soft release button with the Lensmate a6300 Thumbrest for a more relaxed and ergonomic index finger position (with the finger draped over the button, usually not using the finger tip). See our other listings.

One more thing the A6000 also got a Silver version of the Lensmate Thimb Grip (Click here).

Sony a6300 Overview Tutorial

We got some new A6300 tests. Above you can also find the tutorial video posted by Tony Northrup.

A6300 review by Sony Artisan Colby Brown:

The a6300 seems to hit all the right points for me and is an improvement in every way over the a6000. It improved on the already impressive Image Quality found in the a6000, allows for better ISO sensitivity, has a more robust and accurate AF system and has an EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) that rivals most top end OVF (Optical Viewfinders) out there. I also love the fact that the a6300 now includes some handy video features such as 4k (Super 35), 1080p 120 fps slow motion and an AF system that actually works incredibly well in video mode. Throw in the new weather sealed magnesium body and this sub $1000 APS-C mirrorless camera has a lot going for it.

Sony A6300 review by Anthony Thurston:

Let me start off by saying that I have enjoyed my time with the A6300 over the last month immensely. I talk about my annoyances with its size, and some (in my opinion) design flaws that Sony failed to address, but when push comes to shove, I would be very happy to have an A6300 in my bag wherever I am going.
For their next round of upgrades, I would love for Sony to consider increasing the size a bit. I have already stated my case above, but I really do think that the usability improvements from it would make it well worth it (and still very compact). While I am on the subject of future improvements, some other things that would be nice include a touchscreen (with touch AF capability), an improved LCD tilt mechanism, and bigger or better batteries.

Jeff Orig sent me this:This is a rolling shutter comparison between the Sony A6300 vs the Sony A7s vs the Canon 5D Mark iii.  In my opinion, it is a little bit more real world than other tests I have seen.

Some Sony lenses have the focus hold button on the side. It can unlock special features.  You can lock focus and much more with this button including programming it for anything else as a custom button.

This is a quick video on how I set my custom buttons and function menu on the Sony A7S ii. If you have different ideas or suggestions, please let me know.

Drasko: In my latest review i´m taking a look at the Sony Sky HDR App which you can get for 10€ in the Sony Appstore and use on your sony cameras like the A7II, A7rII, A6300… but is it really worth it? Get some coffee and Donuts and have a look! http://www.dsphotoblog.com/?p=1118

Mario:This week I have released a new film called “Senna vs Brundle.” The film looks at the young Ayrton Senna who later became a triple world champion in Formula 1 and one of the most iconic sportsmen. It is set around the British Formula 3 season in 1983 in which Ayrton and Martin Brundle had a fearsome fight for the title. That season made Ayrton the man we later saw in Formula 1 and also propelled Martin directly into Formula 1 with the iconic Tyrell team. https://vimeo.com/ondemand/svsb
The interesting thing for you is that the 14 interviews the film contains and the contemporary footage of the racing car were filmed on 2 Sony A7s, later also an A7rII and 55mm 1.4 lenses. Recording was in 4k ProResHQ on an Atomos Shogun. You can see some pictures at senna-vs-brundle.com in the ‘making of’ section. He film is very popular with the racing community and has been a major topic on twitter in the last days.

(SR2) Some A9 specs info…

Share

Some more A9 info from anonymous new source (therefore take it with a big grain of salt). He says he is in the Broadcast business and a Sony manager told him this about the A9:

From the small snippets I have gleaned:
Sensor around 70-80 Mpixel.
Better IBIS
They are going to sort out this buffer overflow issue
Better HDR  whatever that means.
More “3D depth of sensor” I think they may be looking at some form of advanced “stacked sensor”

If the specs are correct this sounds ok to me! Just wondering how much it will cost if we already have to spill out $3,200 of the Sony A7rII.

But again keep in mind that this is a new source. What highly reliable sources told us so far about the A9 is this:

“The next generation flagship mirrorless camera from Sony will be a giant leap. It will drop a huge bomb in the imaging industry. It will not be A7III or A7RIII. It will be a new model above A7 series. I would say A9 (let’s name it as the new model). So the new A9 will have [shoplink 46602 ebay]dual XQD card slot[/shoplink], no CFast version, only XQD. A9 can do UNLIMITED RAW burst, UNLIMITED. The camera wont pause for buffering. The size will be bigger than [shoplink 46453 ebay]A7RII[/shoplink], but smaller than conventional DSLR, such as [shoplink 46766 ebay]5D3[/shoplink].”

Sony 50mm 1.8 FE Lens Unboxing, AutoFocus and Image Test with an A7SII

Sony FE 50mm 1.8 First Impressions (Dsphotoblog):

wow really did not expect that kind of image quality and detail, also really beautiful bokeh and even some 3d pop on some images, so image quality is excellent. How is the autofocus? Well, unfortunately this is not a strength of this lens. First the autofocus is loud and it looks like there is a slow motor built in, so you will not get a silent and fast SSM lens here. It also looks like this lens will need a firmware update because it focuses back and forth till it gets the focus everytime and thats really not what you would expect from a native FE lens.

Gerd: “Since I just got the new nifty fifty from Sony Sony FE 50mm F1,8 and had the chance to test it on my Sony Alpha 7 MII today let me share my shots with the community. https://500px.com/gerdriedel/galleries/sony-fe50f18-lens-test The pics are mostly unedited (crop/rotation in some cases). 1 Shot was done also with an adapted Minolta MD 50 1,7 for comparison. I’m mostly happy with the lens although it searches for focus a lot, maybe a problem still with not using phase detection, not sure, i’m no pro.”
