Robbert:Last week I got my new DJI Ronin M and shot a Brazilian Zouk dance party with it and my A7s + Sony/Zeiss 24-70 f/4. Left the OOS in the lens on to correct for small shakes and used autofocus all the time which did surprisingly well in the poorly lit environment. Shot everything with 50 frames/sec in S-Log2. Competition rumors: Canon A7 competitor, Pentax FF may uses 42MP Sony sensor.

Image of the Pentax FF prototype at CP+ (Source: DC.watch).

Sony is taking the full spotlight with their new cameras. But there are also some interesting rumors coming in from the competition:

Ricoh-Pentax:
Ricoh will launch a new Pentax FF DSLR camera in October. And Pentaxforums says the camera could use the new Sony 42Mp sensor from the A7rII. My personal bet is that this rumor is false. Don’t see Sony selling their brand new sensor 2 months after the A7rII is in Stock. Pentax is more likely going to use the current 36Mp Sony sensor.

Canon:
There is a new FF mirrorless system camera patent from Canon (Source: MirrorlessRumors). Impossible to say when Canon will launch such a camera on the market. But for sure they will do it.

Samsung:
Samsung has launched the smallest 4K system camera yet (SamsungCameraRumors).

Hasselblad strategy change: No more luxury Sony cam versions for David Beckham (LOL). Focus on unique Medium format cameras (made with Sony?).

Share

Hasselblad_HV

This is a very bad day for David Beckham (see him here with the HV). Hasselblad just “unofficially” confirmed they will stop selling “redesigned” Sony-Hasselblad cameras for 10x the regular Sony price. The newly announced the new “Lusso” A7r clone camera is the last of such “luxurified” Sony cameras. They also dramatically dropped the price of current “Sony clones” like the Hasselblad HV (-$8,000 at BH!).
New Hasselblad CEO, Perry Oosting released an important interview at Dpreview. And here are some key info:

1) Hasselblad Lusso: The Lusso is a strictly limited edition of fewer than 100 units that will be sold mostly through Hasselblad distribution channels in Hong Kong. It will not be sold elsewhere, and there will be no more units made.

2) Sony Luxury clones: Hasselblad will from now on “go back to our core and make the most of the expertise that exists in this company“. In short this means no more Luxury Sony camera clones will be made.

3) Partnership with Sony: Oosting says: “We still have a very good relationship with Sony, and in fact we have recently restarted that good relationship. In the long term we will work together, but there are no co-branded products on the horizon. All our design work will be done in Gothenburg, along with our concepts and production.

Summary: It’s very clear from the interview that Hasselblad wants to focus on medium format cameras. And I bet they will work together with Sony to develop new sensors. As the Ceo said they “recently restarted” the partnership. It means something completely new is on the horizon.
My very personal dream-wish to Hasselblad: Make an interchangeable mirrorless medium format system with Sony sensors. A sort of digital [shoplink 37985 ebay]Hasselblad X-Pan (here on eBay)[/shoplink]. That would be amazing or not?

Sony SEL 90mm Macro UNBOXING

The [shoplink 37991 ebay]90mm FE lens is now shipping[/shoplink] and readers are no posting their first unboxing pics and tests. Feel free to comment this post and add your findings and links about the new FE lens!

UPDATE: There is a full lens review at SLRgear. They write:

It’s a pricey lens, but right now it’s the only E-mount option that works out-of-the-box for macro photography. It might be expensive, but you get an exceptionally sharp lens with some great features – certainly, worth the investment.

Mars:I was very fortunate to be able to shoot with the new 90mm macro lens tonight.  It’s very sharp, and renders beautifully. It’s also much lighter than it looks. All-in-all a beautiful piece of glass! Some images can be found at my blog site: https://marsweekly.wordpress.com/ (all are portraits shot wide-open with the 90mm and a few other lenses)

Discussion: Sony 90mm Macro, or Zeiss 85 Batis, which will you be more likely to get? On SonyAlphaForum.

Adapter

Lately we have quite some good news for Canon owners here on SAR. The new Sony A7rII with Canon lenses focuses as fast as on “native” Canon cameras. And now we have another great news:

DEO Techart is about to release a the world’s first E-mount translucent adapter for Canon EOS lenses! The adapter is scheduled to be released in August and I hope to get final specs and images soon. B

UPDATE: For unknown reasons MXcamera removed the three videos showing the adapter at work. Hope they will be back online soon :(
