(SR5) Big Sony camera announcement 3-4 months AFTER Photokina. New high resolution sensor cameras coming!

Share

I posted many QX and lens rumors lately and little about cameras. The reason why I did so is because the last weeks I got plenty of “unexpected” rumors from sources saying that Sony is literally “skipping” Photokina and planning to release their big A and E-mount cameras some time AFTER Photokina.

The last weeks plenty of sources shared more and more hints about that “big” event. And now I can finally tell you with 100% reliability that this is exactly what’s going to happen. Sony will announce “minor” stuff at Photokina like the QX, new A and E-mount lenses, E-mount 4K and maybe maybe a new A99II and RX camera…but I am not sure about that yet.

What is really hot is that Sony decided to release the big stuff 3-4 months after Photkina. I am now working to get details about those new cameras. I am sure there is a brand new sensor in use in those cameras capable of shooting in very high resolution!

But before that I hope that Sony will at least launch the A99II at Photokina….

Double press event from Sony: Friday Sept 12 (4K cam), Monday 15 Sept (A and E-mount lenses).

Share

Press 1: On Friday Sony will announce the new 4K camcorder leaked last week. They may show the 2500 Euro expensive 28-135mm f/4.0 powerzoom too.

Press 2: The next press conference follows on Monday Sept 15 at 16:00 Berlin time. That’s when we will get the other new A and E-mount lenses like the 35 1.4(G/ZA) and 70-300G II A-mount and the 16-35mm FE and 90mm macro FE lens. Also an updated FE lens roadmap with 85mm lens included for 2015 release. Where I am still not 100% sure yet is the camera list. Best candidates are the A99II and new RX camera. But the bigger news is coming after Photokina and about that I will write and publish a post soon!

First Otus lens tests: Diglloyd says “sets a new standard all its own”.

Share

Otus 1.4/85 ZF.2

Diglloyd posted his first impressions about the new Zeiss Otus 85mm lens:

The Otus 85/1.4 APO-Planar delivers the most transparently beautiful imagery I have ever seen on a DSLR…Including medium format Leica S, and the best Pentax medium format lens, the 90/2.8 macro. The Otus 85mm /1.4 APO-Planar sets a new standard all its own.

The Swedish site Fotosidan (google translation here) posted a short comparison with the Nikon 85mm lens:

Some bright lenses are deliberately drawing a soft at maximum aperture to get nice and soft background blur (bokeh). Zeiss has managed to combine high clarity with nice bokeh, see example image.

The lens can be preorderd at BHphoto with Nikon mount (Click here) or Canon mount (Click here) version.

(SR3) Is there a 90mm FE macro lens coming too?

Share

An anonymous source told me Sony will announce a 90mm macro FE lens at Photokina. Asking now my sources if they can confirm this or not. Thanks!

P.S.: According to Sony’s roadmap that kind of lens is really coming. Hope the fast (85mm 1.4?) prime is going to be announced too!

Zeiss Otus 85mm preorders now up at BHphoto!

Share

The world’s best Full Frame lens, the new Zeiss Otus 85mm 1.4 can be preorderd now at BHphoto with Nikon mount (Click here) or Canon mount (Click here). But the best use is on the Sony A7 Full Frame E-mount cameras. The Otus 85mm is a manual focusing lens and unlike Canon and Nikon cameras the Sony A7r have electronic viewfinder, focus peaking and a lot of other tools that will help Otus owners. So actually..Zeiss…why not simply launch an E-mount version too so that we don’t have to bother buying an adapter?
