(SR5) 70-200mm f/2.8 II and 400mm f/4.0 coming. And a 82mm (filter size) lens mistery.

Share

The next two A-mount lenses are likely going to be the 70-200mm f/2.8 II and the 400mm f/4.0 lenses. What I dont’ know is the exact announcement date but I hope to be able to share that info soon. But according to a source there is a third lens that could be announced too. The source wrote that the Sony will soon offer the “”VF82MPAM” which is a 82mm Multi-Coated filter. It means a new 82mm filter size lens will be announced too. Sounds a lot like a fast prime lens!!! What else could it be?

(SR5) New Honami and Sport cam rumors.

Share

A short break from regular A and E mount rumors to report two other news, pardon rumors :)

1) The Honami i1 smartphone will be unveiled on September 4 in Berlin. You see the teaser on top. This is good news for us because the same source said the NEX-FF is coming too (but not on the same day).
2) A new Sony sport cam will be announced too at the same event!

In short, on August 14 we could have a NEX-5t announcement (and maybe ILC-3000). On September 4 the new Sport cam and first smartphone with high quality image sensor (and maybe new JPEG engine). In late September (24?) the big NEX-FF and hopefully A-mount cameras too.

NEX Full Frame versus Leica M image comparison!

Share

If the NEX-FF will be launched in September one of the big question will be: How good will third party manual lenses work on that camera? So let’s take a look how good (or bad) the current VG900 sensor performs with these lenses. And let’s hope the new NEX-FF will be even more optimized for third party lens solution like the [shoplink 19605 ebay]Leica M Lenses[/shoplink], [shoplink 19923 ebay]Voigtlander M lenses[/shoplink], [shoplink 16763 ebay]Canon FD lenses[/shoplink] and[shoplink 19360 ebay]Zeiss ZM lenses[/shoplink].

I asked all SAR readers to send me their tests to check out the results. This is the first test done by DigitalVersus. It is the first website that compares the new Leica M $8000 camera (here at Amazon) versus the first NEX Full Frame camera (The VG900). They used the same [shoplink 20202 ebay]Leica 50mm Summilux-M lens (here on eBay)[/shoplink] on both cameras. And both cameras have a Full Frame 24 Megapixel CMOS sensor. So what are the results?

Please visit the website to see all image comparisons. Here you can see one of them (Click on it to enlarge):

In short the Leica M is sharper and has richer colors. This may be possible because of the lack of the anti-alias filter. The VG900 is a video camcorder and to have an Anti Aliasing filter makes a lot of sense (otherwise you end up having video clips with lots of moire).

What do you think of the results? Would the [shoplink 20202 ebay]Leica 50mm Summilux-M lens[/shoplink] work fine on the NEX-FF?

Sony may launches transparent-naked cameras?

Share

Back in 1998 when Apple was facing a hard time Steve Jobs launched the iMac G3 with translucent case ([shoplink 20067 ebay]can still be found here on eBay[/shoplink]). It quickly became a huge success. And now the same feature could appear on cameras soon too! A recent Sony patent (USA P.Number 20130201393) describes exactly that. A camera having a translucent (or transparent) case. Sony explains why they want to do that:

Present principles recognize the advantages of providing a camera that has features that make it distinct from other cameras and that also provides aesthetic visual appeal. Accordingly, a camera includes a translucent or transparent housing having a color, the camera also having a processor in the housing. The processor is visible through the housing. The camera also includes a camera element in the housing that generates signals representing an image, it being understood that the processor communicates with the camera element. Additionally, the processor has a periphery and the housing has a visible border line positioned over at least a portion of the periphery of the processor to thereby highlight a presence of the processor.
Moreover, if desired, the border line may be a color matching the color of the housing. Also, in some embodiments, the color of the housing and/or border line may not be clear and the housing may be translucent.

Now imagine a NEX or Alpha camera with…naked view! I think it could like it :)

P.S.: Our reader Neo found the image of the transparent A900 on Flickr. And here is the A77 image:

(SR2) NEX-7 successor specs and 16-80mm Zeiss info. Too good to be true?

Share

I rarely post low ranked SR1-SR2 rumors. But sometimes I feel that also an unconfirmed rumors should be posted. It may help us to grab some attention from trusted sources. I hope they can confirm (or deny) these NEX-7 successor specs soon. Meantime keep your feet stable on ground and just takes these rumor as it is…an unconfirmed rumors from an anonymous source.

more bits:

a bundle Zeiss lens for the launch. 16-80 f2.8-4. i don’t know much about the performance but the decision to move the lens Mount to the left is due to allow the fitting of larger but shorter lenses. i mounted personally a model of the 16-80 to the new body and i can tell you is 68mm wide x 62mm long when closed for 302gr without hood.

the first unit are now to be tested

———

Again, take it with a grain of salt. But I certainly do hope this is one of the few times an SR2 rumor becomes true! A NEX-7 successor with no increased MEgapixel madness, but improved sensor, 5 axis stabilization, improved EVF and a Zeiss 16-80mm f/2.8-4. If that info is correct I will pay quite a couple of beers to that anonymous source :)

Sony RX1R review at ePhotozine. And Canon 5DIII comparison.

Share

ePhotozine posted a new RX1R review.

The Sony Cyber-shot RX1R is a very slightly improved camera compared to the original RX1 with the AA filter removed it has the potential to deliver slightly sharper images, although with the added risk of moiré appearing. The difference is quite subtle and you would be hard pressed to see the difference without comparing results side by side.

And SAR reader Jedi compared the RX1R with the Canon 5DmarkIII at ForcePhotos.fr. The RX1R images looks way sharper don’t you think?
