New Canon EF lens tests on the A7rII (Fotodiox adapter focuses faster than Metabones?).

For those interested to use their Canon EF lenses on the new A7rII here are two more short tests:

1) On top you can watch the video showing the A7rII autofocus test with the [shoplink 38159 ebay]EF 24-70mm f/2.8.[/shoplink]

2) Lazarus shared his test findings via his Instagram profile:

PART 1: I played with the new A7r2 PRE-PRODUCTION version. The hype is real. Here is some important adapter info. For people with canon lenses. With Canon mount lenses the fotodiox af adapter is NOTICABLY FASTER than the metabones IV in autufocus speed. With fotodiox canon 24-70 F2.8 MII is faster than A7II with zeiss 55 F1. 8 in not so good light. NO JOKE!! also tested Tamron 24-70 F2. 8 VC. Canon 24-105 and Canon 70-200 F4. All focused well.

I would be very surprised to learnt he 4 times cheaper Fotodiox adapter works better. I hope to see some real video test soon to see if that claim is true or not!

New Sony 90mm FE lens now in Stock at BH and Amazon. First SAR readers tests.

The new Sony FE 90mm macro lens is in Stock for the first time un USA via Amazon (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here). And here are a few new tests:

1) First SAR owners tests posted on SonyAlphaForum (Click here). Louis Berk:Bottom line, this is a very sharp lens, with very nice colouration. It compliments my A7R very well and I suspect it will also be very good on the upcoming A7RII. The AF to Manual override is very well thought out, you pull back the focus ring and it engages the distance scale. The scale itself is not only very clear but shows both the distance and the macro magnification factor (e.g. 1:1, 1:2 etc). The focus throw is large and very accommodating for macro purposes. The focus is very smooth but in my opinion not stiff enough. This means it is easy to overshoot your target but I expect with practise I will become more accurate. Viewfinder magnification and focus peaking are automatically engaged when manually focussing (although the magnification is a preference set in the camera and can be turned off). From these samples I cannot fault the image quality, the colouration or the ergonomics of the lens. But beware it is a very big object and will take up the space equivalent to a large zoom lens in your camera bag.

2) Gustav posted some early shots at Dyxum: “this new macro-lens is really great , the built-quality is very good , i love the AF-MF ring , when you push the ring to you ,you have MF , when you push back (to the sunhood) you have AF , very easy to work with…the price of the lens is high ..very sharp picture`s even in low light ,normal with post-procesing in RAW you must sharp your picture`s to a level , now it was almost already there.

3) The Japanese site Yodobashi also poste a review with amny nice image samples.

And Patrick Murphy-Racey posted an Open Letter to Sports Shooters and Photojournalists about the Sony A7RII:

People considering buying a 5DS/R might be advised to think hard about the Sony A7RII as an alternative, especially when you consider that Sony makes the sensor in the 5DS anyways. The future is now and it’s going to cost you $3198. It might be time to surface the Nautilus

First Mitakon 85mm f/1.2 FE lens tests.

Speedmaster85mm

The Japanese site DC.watch (google translation here) tested the lens on the A7. They are impressed by the image quality and you can see many nice image samples on their site. The first english review has been written by Darkshape (Click here):

Optical properties at f/1.2 are just breathtaking. Chromatic aberrations only appear at really contrastive parts of the photo (classic branch-in-the-sky case) and the sharpness is just crazy. I feel like the lens designers have been paying a lot of attention to those new 30, 40 and 50-something-megapixel cameras. In case of this lens though I decided to stop down a bit for some of the photos as it helped edge of the frame sharpness considerably. The centre sharpness is very very good across the apertures.
The bokeh is impressive. It’s very smooth for the most part and outstanding sources or light are nicely eye-shaped if they are off-centre. (As many as 11 aperture blades contribute greatly to that). The DoF is paper thin at times and your slightest move can ruin your focus so it’s important to have that in mind. Breathe in and

UPDATE: There is a full lens review at SLRgear. They write:

It’s a pricey lens, but right now it’s the only E-mount option that works out-of-the-box for macro photography. It might be expensive, but you get an exceptionally sharp lens with some great features – certainly, worth the investment.

Mars:I was very fortunate to be able to shoot with the new 90mm macro lens tonight.  It’s very sharp, and renders beautifully. It’s also much lighter than it looks. All-in-all a beautiful piece of glass! Some images can be found at my blog site: https://marsweekly.wordpress.com/ (all are portraits shot wide-open with the 90mm and a few other lenses)

Discussion: Sony 90mm Macro, or Zeiss 85 Batis, which will you be more likely to get? On SonyAlphaForum.
