(SR5) New leaked images and specs of the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM lens

We got these images and some specs of the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM lens that will be announced within the next few hours:

Preorders at Bhphoto. Adorama. Amazon. Calumet Germany. WexUK.

– Sony claims this is the most compact and lightweight lens in its class
– measured 3.0 inches x 3.64 inches
– weight 15.7 ounces
– 67mm filter

I recap what to expect next from Sony:

  • Today the 24mm f/1.4 GM
  • on September 25 probably NO new product
  • in mid October new Sony product announcement

From reliable sources we know the High End APS-C, the A7sIII and the 135mm GM are supposed to be announced as next. As usual with Sony it’s very hard to say what product will be announced when. My bet is that at least one new camera will be announced in October.

SAR note: I had a takedown request for my post with an image leaked by Nokishita (they removed it too).

(SR5) New leaked image of the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM lens

This is a new leaked image of the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM. The lens will be announced today at around 15:00 London time. I repeat that trusted sources told me to not expect anything else to be announced today. And also on Sept 25 Sony is likely to introduce no other new product.

The rumors about a new High End APS-C camera and 135mm FE GM lens are 99,999% solid but for some unknown reasons Sony seems to have decided to announce them on a later event. Keep in mind there is one more Sony press event around mid October. 2 years ago Sony did announce the A6500 10 days after Photokina closure. I suspect Sony decided to announce the new cameras after Photokina to avoid getting in the mix with the Canon R and Nikon Z Photokina buzz.

Getting back to the 24mm GM: Looks like a decently compact lens. I hope the price isn’t crazy high!

Important SAR note: We had a takedown request for the original leaked image by Nokishita. We removed the image but in the meantime we found another one from our own sources.

(SR5) Tomorrow Sony will only announce the new 24mm f/1.4 GM lens. Other rumored gear to be announced later!

Leaked image of the new Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM

We got the very solid confirmation that tomorrow (Sept 20) at around 15:00 London time Sony will announce the new 24mm f/1.4 GM lens only!

The crazy story: They paid for the journalists flight ticket, 2-3 days stay in a hotel…for just ONE LENS.

The rumors about a new 135mm GM, and High End APS-C cameras are from solid sources but I don’t know why Sony will not announce them tomorrow. Keep in mind we have two more Sony press events:

1) Sept 25 at 10am Berlin time
2) Mid October

Two years ago the A6500 was announced just 10 days AFTER Photokina. And I am sure the High End APS-C camera and the 135mm GM are ready for the market launch. I guess this is just a weird marketing decision to avoid to get caught in all the Nikon Z and Canon R Photokina buzz?

P.S: I got a lot of negative feedback from bloggers about this Sony meeting. They were pretty much upset to be off-work for 3 days to see one lens :(

(SR2) Sony might announce something “cloud based” at Photokina???

Logo for the Sony CI cloud for filmmakers. Something similar might be coming for photographers too?

I just got this weird rumor saying that Sony will announce something “cloud based”. That’s all I have been told and I have no reliable confirmation from trusted sources.

Just my speculation: Maybe some kind of APP support or/and Backup support will be announced? Something like the Sony CI for filmmakers that will now be extended to photographers?

Anyway, tomorrow Sony will announce the new 24mm f/1.4 GM and hopefully also the new 135mm f/1.8 GM lens. Stay tuned on SAR!

UPDATED: Official Sony Photokina page launched. 24mm to be announced tomorrow

Sony did launch a special Photokina page (Click here to see it). They will have an official Press conference on September 25 at 10am Berlin time. But the new 24mm f/1.4 FE GM lens will be announced tomorrow on September 20. I have no idea yet if Sony will also announce a new High End ASP-C camera on Sept 25 or if they will only launch it in mid October. Mid October is “historically” when Sony does launch new cameras. For example the A7rIII and the A6500 have been announced in October.

So to sum up the rumors for tomorrow’s announcement:
Confirmed: Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM
Will not to be announced tomorrow: 135mm GM or any new camera

But people present at the Sony event have been told they will nto have to wait a long time to see a new E-mount camera…
