(SR3) Sony will soon launch a new 16mm f/1.4 APS-C E-mount lens?

Imagine on top shows the Fuji 16mm f/1.4 APS-C lens. Sony could release a similar lens soon!

I previosly reported with a very low ranking (SR1) a rumor saying that there would be a new 16mm f/1.4 lens. I rated this very low because the source was not one of my trusted ones. Well, a trusted source just read this rumor and sent me this message:

“The 16/1.4 is APS-C project, not the full frame (FE) one”

So it sounds like Sony is really working on a new 16mm f/1.4 APS-C E-mount lens. I hope other sources can confirm or debunk this so that I can upgrade the rumor value to SR5. Thanks!

(SR1) The Impossible rumors… (16mm f/1.4, A5300 and GH5 competitor)

sony-a7III

This is a new chapter of the “impossible” rumors I received form anonymous source. Please read the note at the bottom to learn what those “impossible rumors” are.

Source 1:

I just received news of a new E lens today, and it’s a bit of a strange one. 16mm f/1.4 and it’s shaped similar to the 55mm f/1.8 but just a little bit longer in physical length. Apparently retailers already have photos of this lens.

SAR note: I really don’t think that 1) the rumor is correct and 2) that would even make sense to make such a lens!

Source 2:

Sony has an A7 series video technology in works with improved cooling and 4K video data rate at 10 Bit 422. There is no need to introduce this new technology too soon, but decision may be revised depending on GH5 sales.

Source 3:

I heard that the successor to the a5100 is coming down the pike. Maybe October-November.

Notes on those kind of (im-)possible rumors:

  • Fake rumors sent by so claimed sources that are known to create fake rumors are NOT included. What you see here are messages I got from unknown sources where I have no track of any “rumor history”
  • It’s by readers request that I create this sum up of low ranked rumors. But please remind all that these are not rumors from trusted sources and don’t count me accountable on those kind of very low ranked rumors :)
  • The last year a couple of those rumors were right (RX1rII and A6300 specs). So miracles sometimes can happen :)

Five new E-mount lenses to be soon announced by Opteka!

Mirrorlessrumors reports that Opteka is going to launch five new lenses for mirrorless system cameras. This is their official press text:

Five new Opteka mirrorless lenses are currently in production. Each lens will be available in Sony E-mount, Fuji X-mount, Olympus and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds, Canon EOS-M mount, and Nikon CX mount. 43rumors
Further details will be provided after our final micron-level quality control checks have been completed.

Opteka already sells some E-mount lenses on Amazon and Amazon.de. But those lenses are designed for DSLR and modified for Sony E-mount. The new lenses are directly designed for mirrorless system cameras.

(SR3) First rumors about a new Sony A77III A-mount camera (Same A6500 sensor and 4K)

I got two info about a possible new Sony A77III A-mount camera:

Source 1:

the development for a77 mk3 is finished, it is now already in deep real-life testing cycle and it will be astonishing good and really, but really fast ;)

A SAR reader had a talk with a Sony manager who told him this:

Same A6500 sensor
Same A77m2 AF-phase detection module combined with a new Hybrid-AF (on sensor AF of the A6500)
4K Video

This all sounds very reasonable to me. Hope to get some more details about the announcement time soon. Anyway, A-mount is still alive for now :)
