Sony organized a special “Sony Surprise” event in Stockholm (Source: sthlm.fotomassan.se). It scheduled on Friday at 11:00 local time. Journalists and photographers will attend the event to see new products. As reported by us Sony will certainly announce the new Sony A68 A-mount camera. Specs here:

24 megapixel sensor

Announcement in November

It’s still unclear if the new A6xxx and new FE lenses will be announced on the very same day or on a later event in 2-3 weeks.

Image on top shows the [shoplink 42118 ebay]70-200mm f/2.8 A-mount zoom[/shoplink]. A new E-mount version could come soon.

Three different sources sent me messages during the last couple of days saying that Sony is preparing the launch of the very first f/2.8 FE zoom. I am still not 100% sure about the specs and release date but so far I have been told:

1) Current FE zooms will get “updated” to be faster (f/2.8) and also of higher optical quality
2) One of those should be the 70-200mm f/2.8 FE lens. Reminder:Sony registered a new 24-70mm FE GM lens (SAR article here).
3) Announcement is likely to happen some time AFTER the Sony A68 announcement (scheduled for November 5th).

It is also unclear if Sony will announce those lenses for real or just on an updated roadmap with a real lens release in 2016.

By end of this week (probably Thursday) Sony will announce the new Sony A68. But two trusted sources just gave me some hints about a possible second announcement from Sony.

Trusted source 1:
He told me there is a major Sony invitation for an event around mid November. Usually that kind of invitations are made for a product launch. And he doesn’t belive that’s for the A68.

Trusted source 2:
Sony told us an A6000 successor is about to be announced soon. And  it will ship already by end December or early January.

After a major delay we may finally see the A6xxx at last?

The new Sony A68 A-mount camera will be displayed by Sony at Salon de la Photo in Paris (Nov 5-9). And a trusted source also told me shipment is scheduled for early next year. Also: PDAF works down to -2 EV.

And a hot hint: There may be something “else” coming shortly AFTER the A68 announcement…

The following rumor comes via a new source. So as usual take those with a large amount of skepticism. I chatted with him for some time yesterday and he said that Sony delayed a bit the launch of the 85mm G FE lens that was rumored to be launched in autumn. He says why:

Announcement depends on relations and partnership with Zeiss, since they couldn’t meet the demand for Batis 85 on time and currently short on stock. He says he was told the management may decide to wait Zeiss to sell Batis with a worldwide coverage.

The same source also said that Sony’s original plan was (or still is) to release two new FE lenses in autumn (with shipments before Christmas). One is the 85mm G FE and one is the 70-200mm f/2.8 FE lens.
