(SR3) Some more detailed A-and E-mount rumor by an anonymous source.

An anonymous sources who claims to be in contact directly with Sony Japan told me the following tidbits about Sony A and E-mount development. As usual with new sources take the info with a grain of salt and as a chance to discuss the content based on that hypothetic scenario:

1) The a-mount will keep going with the existing lenses. Sony will support those lenses.

2) The engineers have 6 prototypes for new (A-mount) cameras.  Two are very different than previous cameras, but are in early stages and would take much longer to develop.  The other four are refreshes of current cameras.  NOTE: he said definitely not all of these will be made.

3) The engineers feel management was disappointed in the A77ii.  They feel it was a mistake to keep the same shape because people didn’t know it was very different.  Almost all components in A77ii were new.  For that reason, they are looking at new designs for anything else they come out with, but new designs take longer to make and more money and durability testing.

4) There are more e-mount lenses coming, and some a-mount lenses will be upgraded.

5) The engineers have not heard of a new 24-105 for a-mount.  Might be for e-mount.  There have not been prototypes of a-mount lenses since CZ50, but lenses are designed elsewhere and there might be more — not sure.

6) Management feels a-mount is well supported the way it is, and that FE lenses and accessories are the priority.  Especially lenses that are not on the a-mount already.

7) IBIS on E-mount is possible but not as good as on A-mount.

Thanks to the anonymous sources! Hope he will become one fo my trusted sources soon :)

(SR4) What I heard about the A-mount future so far: Going Pro, slow release cycle, lenses.

While E-mount news and rumors are pretty reliable and stable the A-mount future is quite more…unpredictable. The last couple of weeks I got in contact with as many as source as possible to try to gather some reliable info. And this is what I got:

1) A-mount is certain to continue.
2) Sony E-mount success caught Sony a bit “unprepared”. Therefore many A-mount product released have been “delayed” to focus resources and production on E-mount. This because that system needs to be broadened as soon as possible before the competition catches up. Editor’s note: This could be a reason why some of the rumored A-mount lenses planed for 2014 haven’t been released yet
3) Release cycle of A-mount products is getting longer.
4) New A-mount cameras will focus on a more high end market (likely no cheap entry level A-mount camera to come anymore?).

LIke I told you before the next VERY BIG(!) Sony announcement is scheduled for January-February 2015. But none of the sources could yet confirm this is for A-mount. I hope to get mroe about it soon. If you have some “rumor” to share just send me an anonymous messages here:

(SR3) XAVC-S recording coming to the A7-A7r with the next firmware update?

Recently the RX10 got a nice update which added XAVC-S recording. According to a video maker close to Sony also the A7 and A7r could get such an update soon. Would certainly be nice!

(SR4) Sony High (46?)Megapixel camera is coming for real in first quarter 2015!

The great Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8.

A trusted source shared a couple of interesting info. He knows for sure that the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 lens announced at Photokina has been designed for new High megapixel cameras. He says the lens has been tested to resolve enough detail on a Sony 46 Megapixel Full Frame camera. And that camera will be announced the first quarter of 2015! It’s yet not clear if this is an A or E (or both) mount camera.

The source who told me this shared correct info in the past therefore I rank the rumor with an SR4 level (80% chance this is correct). There is a hot rumor time coming by end of this year and very early 2015. To not miss any of the upcoming rumors subscribe here:

High Megapixel rumor war update (Canon coming soon?)

canon50mp

Sony’s close to 50 megapixel camera is likely to come in very early 2015. But before that Canon could launch their 50 Megapixel camera this week already! At least their teaser promises a lot. I am yet not into Canon rumors so I don’t know if the camera is really coming in these days already. Knowing Canon they could also make a big advertsising…for nothing really exciting. Anyway, if this is the High Megapixel camera I will be certainly happy. It will force Sony to price their new cameras in a competitive way.
