Sony working on a rotating semitransparent mirror (for SLT).

The Sony patent (google translated)

Egami (google translation here) found a new Sony patent describing a rotating semi transparent mirror tech. The reason why the mirror should rotate is because by changing the angle you will also change the kind of light that will hit the sensor. For example you can opt to transmit or not to transmit infrared light. Not only that it seems also capable to influence the RGB color separation. Really don’t know if this will ever make it into a real production camera or just lay on the desk of the Sony engineers for the years to come…

That said, what do you think of the patent?

(SR5) Zeiss says they will launch a Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 in 2014!

As we have seen from the many tests so far the best lens you can use on your A7-A7r camera is the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 (with E-mount adapter). Well if you like to get the best possible lens you will be happy to learn that Zeiss quietly admitted on their Zeiss page that their next “next Otus lens will be available in 2014: Otus 1.4/85.” Save the money guys! Found via MirrorlessRumors.

One more thing: They have no plan to make an A or E-mount version of the lens. It’s manual focusing lens so it doesn’t really matter anyway. Just use an adapter :)

A new Sony A7r with Zeiss Otus test can be seen at The.me:

The Zeiss Otus is a magnificent piece of optical engineering, as I could confirm having borrowed one from the Zeiss people here. It is F1.4, has no noticeable flaws and is very sharp if you focus correctly.

(SR5) Mitakon will make a 50mm f/0.95 for the A7-A7r.

What you see here on top is the [shoplink 14656 ebay]Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 lens for ASP-C E-mount cameras (they are on auction here on eBay)[/shoplink]. Some image samples can be seen here and a short SAR reader review here.

Well, we just learned that Mitakon is developing a new 50mm f/0.95 Full Frame E-mount lens! This will become the first native E-mount Überfast lens. Of course Image Quality will by miles away from the $11.000 Leica Noctliux. But if it is as good (or as bad) as the current 35mm Mitakon than it may become an interesting lens after all.

The lens will be announced in mid 2014. Price is yet not known.

(SR5) Sony sensor revolution: First “non-Bayer” sensors coming in 2015.

Sony is heavily investing in a brand new sensor tech that will likely find his way in production cameras as early as 2015. I already told you a couple of weeks ago that Sony developed a 54 Megapixel sensor with on sensor PDAF. Well today I have been told by a very trusted sources that this sensor is also the first that has not been designed with a classic RGB (Bayer) pixel structure.

The well trusted source told me that Sony’s plan is to keep using 24MP and 36MP FF sensor on the new A and E-mount cameras that will be announced in 2014 and early 2015. It will also depend from the competition whether Sony will launch the camera with the new sensor in late 2015 or during 2016.

In short, after many years of classic RGB sensor structure (with the exception from Sigmas Foveon tech) we will get a real major leap forward in sensor imaging tech.

I hope to get details soon!
