UPDATED: Official Sony Photokina page launched. 24mm to be announced tomorrow

Share

Sony did launch a special Photokina page (Click here to see it). They will have an official Press conference on September 25 at 10am Berlin time. But the new 24mm f/1.4 FE GM lens will be announced tomorrow on September 20. I have no idea yet if Sony will also announce a new High End ASP-C camera on Sept 25 or if they will only launch it in mid October. Mid October is “historically” when Sony does launch new cameras. For example the A7rIII and the A6500 have been announced in October.

So to sum up the rumors for tomorrow’s announcement:
Confirmed: Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM
Will not to be announced tomorrow: 135mm GM or any new camera

But people present at the Sony event have been told they will nto have to wait a long time to see a new E-mount camera…

(SR4) Is this the first leaked image of the new 24mm f/1.4 GM?

Share

A readers spotted this image of a 24mm f/1.4 GM lens from one of the journalists present at the Sony event. Looks like it’s the real thing!

This lens should be announced between today and Sept 20. I heard about an NDA running til Sept 20 but maybe that was for the reviews only and the lens might be announced today. Moreover there may be a 135mm f/1.8 FE lens too.

Reminder: Sony has a press event on Sept 25 and one in mid October. My guess for now is that the High End APS-C camera and/or the A7sIII will be announced in mid October.

Wild rumors: Samsung might battle Sony with new APS-C and FF sensors

Share

If you believe what’s reported on Korean forums like Clien.net and SLRclub things will start to get very interesting soon. Samsung is rumored to have partnered with Fuji and Ricoh-Pentax to deliver them new APS-C and FF sensors. These sensors would support H. 265 codec and cost 30% less than what you have to pay for equivalent Sony sensors.

P.S.: Rumors aside there is a fact: Samsung and Fuji have announced a partnership earlier this year. More about the Samsung sensor rumors at MirrorlessRumors.com
