(SR5) New A7 line will have A6500 menu. And a flash info….

Share

I got these small info from a reliable source:

1, they have no plans to bring the new menu design (from a6500) to the current a7 line but would be using it on newer models

2, current e mount flashes can not fire the af beam (on the flash) when another flash is being controlled wirelessly. This is a limitation of the current implementation and is currently impossible to fix.

Readers should really follow our RSS feed, follow us on Facebook and Twitter if they don’t want to miss the Sony April news. And if you heard “something” about the new camera contact me at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com or use the contact form you see on the right top of this site. Thanks!

An interesting choice at Hasselblad: Ming Thein is the new Chief of Strategy

Share

Ming Thein  © Hasselblad

Well that sounds unusual: Hassleblad appointed Ming Thein as new Chief of Strategy. It’s unusual because usually we see “pure” business manager or engineers in that position and not a real skilled and well-known photographer like Ming Thein (althaugh he has some important business experience too). It will be interesting to see if Ming Thein can lead back Hasselblad to past glorious. I think he certainly has the talent to do so. But it will be a difficult work now that Fuji is competing in that segment too.

It would be my dream if Hasselblad and Sony could work together on a 55x41mm large mirrorless medium format system camera. Let’s see if Ming Thein will take note of my wish :)

(SR2) UPDATED: No new FS5II E-mount camcorder at NAB?

Share

Image on top shows the current FS5

I just got these two rumors. A part of the rumored 8K camcorder Sony could also announce a new FS5II E-mount camcorder:

Source 1: Camcorder similar to the Sony FS5 . With global shutter.

Source 2:  I was told that I should wait with my purchase of FS5 now. Because it is highly possible that new camcorder with 4k60p is coming on NAB (because of URSA mini PRO and GH5).

UPDATE:M Seems like the rumors are not correct. I got info the FS5II will now NOT be announced at NAB.

Reminder: Sony has a press conference scheduled for April 23 at 3 am Las Vegas time (NAB show start).

Sony A99II review at Imaging Resource: “bold statement that the Sony A-mount is alive”

Share

Imaging Resource tested the Sony A99II and the conclusion is:

The Sony A99 II is a bold statement that the Sony A-mount is alive and well for enthusiasts and professionals alike. It is a remarkable technological achievement in multiple ways, from its ability to capture full-resolution 42.4-megapixel RAW images at nearly a dozen frames per second, to utilizing a super-quick, advanced hybrid autofocus system with tons of individual AF points.
However, it is also a camera that, despite how advanced many of its features are, felt occasionally stuck in the past. 4K UHD video recording is hampered and despite Sony’s efforts, the menus and a few of the controls are somewhat clunky.
Overall, the Sony A99 II is an excellent full-frame “DSLR” camera that achieves some great feats. To be able to utilize hundreds of autofocus points while shooting 42.4-megapixel images at nearly 12fps is very impressive.
