Five new E-mount lenses to be soon announced by Opteka!

Mirrorlessrumors reports that Opteka is going to launch five new lenses for mirrorless system cameras. This is their official press text:

Five new Opteka mirrorless lenses are currently in production. Each lens will be available in Sony E-mount, Fuji X-mount, Olympus and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds, Canon EOS-M mount, and Nikon CX mount. 43rumors
Further details will be provided after our final micron-level quality control checks have been completed.

Opteka already sells some E-mount lenses on Amazon and Amazon.de. But those lenses are designed for DSLR and modified for Sony E-mount. The new lenses are directly designed for mirrorless system cameras.

Voigtlander 65mm macro FE lens hands-on by Dpreview: “screams precision and quality”

Dan Bracaglia from Dpreview played a bit with the new Voigtlander 65mm macro FE lens which is now in Stock at BHphoto, Amazon and Adorama. In Europe at Photo-Porst-Neuwied

He writes:

“Everything about how the 65mm handles screams precision and quality, from the all metal housing to the drool-worthy matte black finish.

What I like:

  • Excellent build-quality
  • Very sharp throughout aperture range
  • Focus ring turns with exceptional smoothness
  • Electronic contacts allow lens to communicate with camera

What I don’t like:

  • Focus ring hard stop at infinity end is beyond infinity (this may be an issue with our copy though)
  • 65mm field of view takes some getting used to”

After a successful Kickstarter campaign for its Lydith 30mm art lens, Meyer Optik is now offering the lens to the Indiegogo community. The Lydith is one of the extraordinary lenses from famous German lens maker Meyer Optik.
The lens allows the photographer to capture the magic of the moment in an absolutely unique way as sharpness, contrast and bokeh combine perfectly together to allow for an outstanding composition of light and color. The Indiegogo project page shows many beautiful examples of the lens’ abilities.
Designed in the late 1950s and introduced to the market in 1964, the modern version of the Lydith will be updated with high-perfomance lens coatings and a short minimum focusing distance of 8 inches (16 cm). Like all of Meyer Optik’s lenses, the Lydith will be a fully manual lens, 100 percent handmade in Germany; the company will use Schott and Ohara glass only.
Through the Indiegogo campaign, the supporters have the opportunity to get the lens at a more than 40% discount of the expected retail price. The campaign will run until Sept. 6.

Dpreview tests the new 6D Mark II and writes: “falls too far short for us to recommend it over the competition”

First an important note: This is not an ANTI-Canon bash post. I love many of the Canon features and wish Sony would learn a thing or two from them. And a camera doesn’t just get defined by its Image Quality. But…

…the time when Canon could relax on their throne might be definitely over. Dpreview tested the new 6D Mark II. And I think it’s the first time in years I see a Canon camera not receiving at least a Silver award:

For the same price, Nikon’s D750 offers nearly the same resolution, loads more dynamic range and a far more sophisticated autofocus system. Same goes for the Sony a7 II, though that camera is even cheaper.
Let’s be clear: The EOS 6D Mark II is, like so many other cameras, capable of outstanding images in the right hands. But even considering all the traditional Canon bonuses like great color, ease of use for video capture and comprehensive lens ecosystem, the 6D II falls too far short for us to recommend it over the competition, and therefore it doesn’t merit our highest awards.

Canon has to do something to catch up with the Sony sensor quality. I bet the new A7III which could hit the market by end of 2017 or early 2018 will widen the gap between Sony and Canon sensor quality.
