Lensbaby launches a new 85mm f/1.6 lens for both E and A-mount

Share

There is a new lens from Lensbaby and you can have it in native E-mount or A-mount versions at Adorama or Bhphoto.

Dan Mandell tested the lens and concluded:

“I could justify buying it simply because of its increased situational versatility. While you have the option to go full artsy with this lens, you can dial it down or season to taste if you prefer. It would have been interesting to really see how this lens works in even more diverse scenarios. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few things. There are probably ways to exploit what the lens does to create more targeted areas of effect. Using spotlights or fresnels, you could literally paint in or pinpoint areas of light that would receive the effect. Even light painting or long exposure shots have interesting possibilities here.

I’m happy to see Lensbaby making some moves in this direction. I look forward to more and more interesting entries into the market from them”

ThePhoBlographer tested the E-mount version:

The Lensbaby Velvet 85mm f1.8 is a great lens in so many ways. It’s surely an improvement over the previous offering and it fantastic for portrait photographers. If you’re a fan of the classic lenses in terms of build quality and image quality, it’s going to be very difficult to get something better than this. Can it be sharper? Sure; but I’ll be the first person to tell you that you can deepen the black levels, boost the clarity and raise the sharpness to enhance overall sharpness in a photo. Almost nothing on the market will give you colors like this though unless you know how to get them. And the honest truth is that you can walk into all these Facebook groups with images that people say look like real film, but they’re really not. This, however, gets close.

Sony 12-24mm G review by Marc Alhadeff

Share

Marc Alhadeff tested the new Sony 12-24mm G lens:

This FE12-24 G is winning a well deserved place in the Sony lenses lineup
Light , well built, its optical quality is excellent in practice. Very consistent center to border, no chromatic aberration , low distortion , very good flare resistance, fast and reliable Af, quiet operation, unlimited creative possibility for wide angle fans
It is a must for Architectural shooters.
For landscape shooters it will go along the 16-35 but will not replace it. The 16-35 has still a little edge in term of sharpness and contrast if you have a >40Mpix camera and if you need to do very large prints (100 * 150cm)

The new Sony FE lenses preorders:
16-35mm GM at Bhphoto, Adorama, BestBuy, Focus and Amazon. In EU at Amazon DE, Calumet DE, Amazon UK. WexUK, Jessops. Amazon IT.
12-24mm G at Bhphoto, Adorama, BestBuy, Focus and Amazon. In EU at Amazon DE, Calumet DE, Ringfoto Dockhorn. Amazon UK. WexUK, Jessops. Amazon IT.

Brand New Soft Rubber Eyecup Sony A6000/A6300

Share

Chris Engell is now selling his new A6000/A63000 Eyecup on eBay (Click here). He also di sent me this text:

Here’s are reasons to have and use My Soft Rubber Eyecup and I ship all over the world! What does my Eyecup do for you?

1. It provides 100% more cushion to your face or glasses when compared with the Sony factory OEM eyepiece that is hard and really does not block outside light for shooters with and without glasses.
2. My Eyecup also provides a 3-point
3. My Eyecup also blocks wind and rain and dust while shooting with your Sony A6000/A6300!
4. Without my Eyecup it’s like watching TV in the sunlight!
5. With my Eyecup it’s like watching TV at night, nice and dark and much better color and contrast. It’s night and day improvement!
6. Helps prevent the viewfinder from fogging in cold weather when breathing up to your face and when you’re out shooting in the rain
7. The LCD does still flip out and close, you just need to pull down and out, please see pics above.

Well, I built my Eyecup for my A6000/A6300 so that it stays on and please see pics above showing me holding the edge of my Soft Rubber Eyecup while my A6300 with the Sony/Zeiss 16-70 mounted on my A6300 camera while it’s over the ground that’s how secure my A6000/A6300 Eyecup is!

Note: The Sony A6500 eyecup is also available on eBay (Click here).
