FE70-200mm-GM

The new Sony 70-200mm GM FE lens isn’t Stock in USA nor in and Europe. Amazon US (Click here) just added a note on the lens page:

Because of high demand, we anticipate being unable to fulfill all customer orders with our first allocation. Product supply from Sony is very limited. Your place in line will be maintained and your credit card will not be charged until the product is shipped.

I got word from store owners that Sony will ship them a new Stock starting from mid-late September.

Check the 70-200mm GM in Stock status at BHphoto, Amazon, Adorama, Focuscamera. Calumet.de. Amazon GermanyCyberport.de. PhotoPorst. Jessops. WexUK.

There is also a new 70-200mm GM lens test by Jason Vong:

Amenu

Sony’s menu system can be quite painful to use. But there is hope folks! I just got this:

“Sony is developping a new menu System. Not the one you published as a mockup, the changes are even more dramatic.”

Now let’s hope that they don’t make it even worse! Just joking Sony engeneers :)

Twan:I have a request for A7RII owners with a 85mm G-Master lens. I have a very strange issue. I have a a7Rii and when i put de 85mm G-Master on my camera, with camera off but battery in the camera, it will NOT autofocus on a subject beyond 30 feet AND I am not able to MANUAL focus beyond 30 feet, belive it or not…
This is fixed by removing the battery from the camera and put it back in, then the lens on the camera does autofocus and manual focus to infinity again.
Can someone check if he/she has the same problem so I know I need to take the lens in for repairs.

A legend is back for sale: NEX-7 at Samys

Share

NEX-7

The Sony NEX-7 was the first E-mount camera with huge “WOW I want it!” factor. But Sony has never made a successor of the NEX-7 and there is no store selling them new anymore. But recently Samys listed a couple of those NEX-7 as Open Box items on eBay US (Click here) and at Amazon.

Just my two cent: A NEX-7 with FF sensor would be a great idea or not?

New primers for the Sony A7sII

Share

A7primers

Hrvoje from Omeneo (Click here) made the primers for the Sony A7sII:

Happy to announce that A7S2 is now optimized as well. I tested in thoroughly and made appropriate transformation setups for both S-Log2 and Cine4 gammas. S-Gamut3Cine is used as a color basis with both.
S-Log2 gives about a stop more of DR at the cost of usability in 8 bit video with high luminosity gradients, such as sky. It is usable in many other scenarios, when more DR is important for highlight information, such as interior shots with windows and bright exterior. Cine4 gamma (additionally modified in camera as suggested on the Primers page) gives more all-around performance and dynamic range sufficient for majority of shooting scenarios. Primers improve both profiles, achieving:

1) Improved color accuracy across the signal range
2) More natural looking image
3) Getting the most out of available DR
4) Stabilized spectral response as quality basis for further grading

Primers are specific, per-camera designed, in-depth color response optimizations and now Sony A7S2 is covered as well and its users can see what it is capable of. Make sure you setup the camera for both profiles as suggested on the Primers page and apply them on material before any further color modifications and final look creation.
I’ve been asked about usage of Primers in photography. Yes, they work as long as they are used for the camera and gamma and color profiles they are designed for. I’m using them with both stills and video. Photoshop and Affinity support their 3DLUT form.
