The super telephoto lens deal is back! Beachcamera is selling a very limited quantity of Tamron 150-600mm lenses for Sony through their [shoplink 40600 ebay]eBay Store (Click here to grab one)[/shoplink].Be sure to select the “Sony” version from the drop down menu!

As I reported last time (when the deal went sold out within 24h) this is a great A-mount lens you can use on your E-mount cameras too. The lens got tested on the A7II by Luminous Landscape:

The on-sensor phase detection AF of the A7 MKII and the system’s focus tracking capability allowed for capturing these completely unpredictable penguins as they jumped from the water. Their position can’t really be anticipated and their time above water is faster that one’s ability to anticipate.Virtually every frame out of hundreds shot showed excellent lock-on and tracking. I frankly don’t think that I have ever used a long zoom lens / camera combo that could have done better.

Here is the image of the new Sony A7rII with Meike grip and the Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 SSM superzoom. Courtesy of  SAR reader Gilles Frydma. P.S.: You can buy the Meike grip on Amazon US (Click here) or via many [shoplink 39175 ebay]eBay sellers (Click here)[/shoplink].

Nabil Fathi just posted a video showing what he claims to be a [shoplink 40595 ebay]hacked Sony A7s[/shoplink]! He writes:

This is just a teaser of upcoming hack similar to magic lantern that will be available for the Sony A7S, possible on the A7S II but not sure yet..Higher bitrate, better subsampling (HDMI 10bit 422), 4K recording, etc…

The video can be seen here:

I have no info yet if that is a “real” hack or if that’s just an APP with modified menu and no real new functions…So please take it with a BIG grain of salt! It would certainly be amazing to suddenly have such BIG new features on your Sony A7s. But we have no real proof yet that this is a real hack and if it really works.

Sony RX10m2 review by Kai, Mark Galer and Photographyblog.

Click the play button on the video on top to hear Kai’s opinion on the new RX10m2.

Mark Galer tested the RX10m2 and writes:

For photographers who are looking for one camera that will do everything this could well be the one. My only reservation about recommending this camera to anyone would be for those photographers who take pleasure in collecting lenses. As one photographer put it “we date our cameras but marry our lenses”. Wise investment in good glass is never a waste of money and The RX10 II has some seriously good glass attached to it. It is only the permanent ‘attachment’ of the T* glass that one must consider before investing in the RX10 II. I would highly recommend this camera after these considerations have taken place.

Photographyblog also reviewed the camera and writes:

Ultimately, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II is a great camera that’ll satisfy photographers of all abilities. It’s also a worthy successor to the original model and offers a much more accomplished shooting experience than typical small-sensor bridge cameras. Our only major gripe is the price hike over the original RX10, which is both significant and tough to justify next to the Panasonic FZ1000, its Leica V-Lux (Typ 114) sister camera, and the Canon PowerShot G3 X, which all pack a 1-inch sensor and more optical zoom for much less money.

One more crazy thing: Mirrorlessrumors spotted a [shoplink 40553 ebay]200mm f/1.0 lens on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. It sells for $387,000!!!!!!!!! But I don’t know if you can actually use it on an E-mount camera…

Strong Sony mirrorless sales figures in USA!

Bildschirmfoto 2015-09-18 um 07.12.46

Imaging Resource had a meeting with the Sony folks in USA. And they shared the chart above which finally clearly shows how Sony’s interchangeable camera business is growing:

The presentation included stats from market research firm NPD, stating that Sony has been the #1 mirrorless camera maker for the last four years running. As with everyone else, 2013 was pretty awful, but check out the numbers since then. For the first half of 2015, their ILC sales were up 42% over 2014. Let’s underscore that: 42 freakin’ percent growth, in a generally down market.

and

Sony has shown an impressive ability to develop technology and innovate, and I guarantee that the results the DI division is turning in will translate into even more investment there going forward. I have no idea what’s coming next, but am confident that the next few years will see even greater advances than we’ve seen in the last few.

Yes, we can expect great things from Sony!

The only thing that worries me here is that A-mount seems to be completely out of the picture. And Also the APS-C E-mount systems needs a sign from Sony (A6100 and new APS-C lenses).

One more wish:…we need bigger cameras too. A new A9 series with larger body, larger batteries, better grip/balance with bigger lenses, no overheating issues and so on…that would be nice!

Pentax Full Frame DSLR camera with Sony sensor to be launched in Spring 2016.

PentaxFF

Today Pentax released the official teaser for their new upcoming FF camera. It’s highly likely the camera will feature a Sony FF sensor although it’s not clear if it will use the 36MP or the new 42MP sensor from the A7rII. A very interesting info is that the camera will feature a High Resolution shooting mode according to the reliable source Thistanaka.

As I reported in a previous post:
The same high resolution shooting mode feature is already used by their brand new K-3II:

The K-3 II is the first camera in the PENTAX line to incorporate Pixel Shift Resolution® for capturing still life subjects with ultra-high resolving power. Pixel shift technology uses the camera’s in-body Shake Reduction mechanism to move the image sensor at single pixel increments, capture 4 separate images, which are subsequently combined into a single high definition image. Benefits include higher resolving power, reduced false color and improved overall image quality of non-moving subjects.

If Pentax can use Sony sensor and their on sensor stabilization for high-resolution mode…than Sony should do this too! As Diglloyd reported such a feature on the A7rII could generate 144MP raw files of your…dead cat :)
