Next week we will likely get a couple of new products:

100% certainty: A new 20mm f/1.8 G FE
70% chance: A new fixed lens camera from Sony (the camera has been registered in Asia but we still got no 100% confirmation it’s coming next week)
70% chance: A new lens from Sigma: Maybe the 70-200mm f/2.8 FE?
70% chance: New Tamron 70-180mm FE pricing announcement

It’s highly unlikely we will get a new A7IV or A7sII successor now. The best we can hope is that Sony might tease us something about those but this wouldn’t be in Sony’s style…

I received the first test report of the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 FE lens. I was told we shall get some more “official” news about this lens soon. In the meantime I can share this:

• Lens MTF at f/2.8 shows that at least at 70mm and 180mm the lens is sharper than the Sony GM 70-200
• VXD motor is incredibly fast and is able to focus across its focusing range almost instantly

The lens tested was close to final production version. If confirmed this is indeed great news. Now let’s hope Tamron will share full pricing and shipment start info next week…

We got two competition news:

• Sony A6600 competitor:
  Fujirumors just leaked those X-T4 images and specs. This camera will be priced a little above the Sony A6600
• Sony A7sII-A7sIII competitor:
  Panasonic said they are not ready to launch an 8K L-mount camera. And I believe also Sony will not offer 8K on the A7sII successor. I guess 8K isn’t something really needed yet on the market and the Canon EOS-R5 might only feature a “crippled” 8K video to create some marketing hype.

I have small hope that Sony will make an A7000 any time soon. In my opinion it would make a lot of sense but Sony marketing seems to think differently…

We now know the specs of the Sony 20mm f/1.8 G FE lens that will be announced around February 25

• 67mm filter diameter
• 0,19 minimal focal distance
• Function button on lens with switch for MF and AF
• Aperture ring like the 24mm Gmaster with click less option
• Material and feel touch same as 16-55 f/2.8

Two sources told me this about the new Sony 20mm f/1.8 G FE lens:

same design quality of the 16-55 f/2.8 . And like the 24mm Gmaster it has an aperture ring and switch for fluid aperture for filmmaker

I guess that having 16-55mm cues means that it has a MF-AF switch and a customizable button too.

One single source got hinted that Sony will announce a camera “soon”. The word “Soon” is relative and my guess it means within a couple of weeks. The safest bet is that this is the fixed lens camera already registered in Asia. But there is a “lot of whisper” on this camera. Translated for you readers this means this ain’t going to be just a boring minor release.

Also I keep mixed feedback on the A7sII successor…while the camera might not be on market soon there is a small chance that Sony will give us some kind of “teaser” of this camera. If they are smart they will do it to kill the attention from the EOS-R5 and X-T4.

To sum up what we know so far:

• 100% chance Sony will have an announcement day around February 25
• 100% chance we will get the 20mm f/1.8 FE G
• 60% chance we will get a new “camera” around February 25
• 100% chance the 12-24mm f/2.8 GM will be available this summer
