Less than 24 hours left for the big Hasselblad announcement. You can follow the live videostream live tomorrow (June 22) at 14:00 Stockholm time. Why should we care about it?

1. It’s likely to be the world’s first digital mirrorless (system?) medium format camera.
2. It’s likely to feature the Sony 50MP medium format sensor.
3. There is chance Sony is somehow involved in this. Sony may share their tech to Hasselblad.
4. And…now I am dreaming…if Hasselblad is successful Sony could one day join the new system with their Sony branded cameras and lenses.

So let’s watch that new “thing” tomorrow :)

A source sent me that following info:

“Sony is currently prototypeing Image Sensors based on SiOnyx  or better known as “black silicon”. Basically it uses a porous silicon etch on the front side to reduce reflectance. However, while this works well in reducing the visible light reflectance of bare silicon wafers with no backside layers or materials from 46 % to a few %. For image sensors a sensitivity invrease of 30% is estimated”

Just for your fun. These are the “impossible” rumors I got from unknown sources:

(Source 1) Larger than FF camera:
Larger than FF Sony camera by end of June (UPDATE: Source recontacted me and said Sony camera is comign at photokina and not by end of June).

(Source 2)  Sigma FE:
Sigma will release FE lenses 70mm f/2.8 Macro, 85mm f/1.8, 100-300mm f/4-5.6

(Source 3) Telephoto:
Sony A mount is not dead. New telephotos coming for a and e mount. 150-490mm f5.6 coming

(Source 4) APS-C E-mount lens:
sony will add PZ to FE16-35 24-70 70-200

The image above shows you a part of the new Hassleblad camera that will be announced on June 22 at 14:00 Berlin time. It seems to be highly likely that Sony is involved into this project too. At least with the 50MP medium format sensor but probably also with some more tech. So the camera will be:

– First Hasselblad mirrorless system camera
– Sony 50MP sensor (twice the area an the FF sensor)
– Built-in viewfinder

It will be interetsing to see what kind of mount Hassleblad will use for this. And if Sony could “join” that system sometimes in the near future!

Hasselblad is teasing the event with the phrase “game changer in the world of photography”. Ming Thein also writes:

“let’s say I do have some knowledge about what this might be, and it’s at least twice as interesting as they promise:) Feel free to speculate away in the comments; I shall neither confirm nor deny…”

That sounds promising!!!

The days of Sony clone camera like the Stellar and Lunar are over. And Hasselblad wants signal the new era by announcing a “game changer in the world of photography“. You can follow the announcement live on June 22 at 14:00 CET time (Berlin time). There is yet no clue about what camera they will announce. I am pretty confident that this might be a new mirrorless system camera. Not sure if it’s medium format. It will be also interesting to see how Sony is involved in this!

Sony will announce new FE lenses at Photokina. A source told us one of them will be surely a new fast prime lens. Not clear yet what’s the focal length or aperture. But just in case let us know which one you would want to be launched as first:

I would love to get a GM version of the  glorious [shoplink 48862 ebay]Canon 50mm f/1.2[/shoplink] lens. But I am sure Sony would charge a “glorious” price on it too. So let’s hope for a more affordable f/1.4 lens (it really should be below $1,000 to make us all happy!)

Based on his long experience Tony Northrup is guessing what’s coming next from the big companies (Sony, Canon and Nikon). He does believe Sony will actually release two different A9 models at Photokina. Those would be the specs:
