Zeiss announcement on April 5th confirmed! And a Pre-April 1 joke rumor about Sony A8, A7iii, 16-35mm GM and 100-400mm

Image on top shows the Batis 135mm f/2.8

First a “serious” rumor: I can confirm Zeiss will the new Batis 135mm f/2.8 FE lens on April 5!!!! So stay tuned on SAR on that day!

And now to the funny part: It’s late guys and I am very tired. But we are on the eve of April 1 and an anonymous source who seems to want to share some fun sent me this:

Announcement within 24 hours
sony a8

sony a7iii
sony 16-35 GM
sony 100-400

There is one chance out of 1.000.000 this is right…..If that happens I will kiss the sources butt :)

(SR5) New A7 line will have A6500 menu. And a flash info….

I got these small info from a reliable source:

1, they have no plans to bring the new menu design (from a6500) to the current a7 line but would be using it on newer models

2, current e mount flashes can not fire the af beam (on the flash) when another flash is being controlled wirelessly. This is a limitation of the current implementation and is currently impossible to fix.

(SR2) UPDATED: No new FS5II E-mount camcorder at NAB?

Image on top shows the current FS5

I just got these two rumors. A part of the rumored 8K camcorder Sony could also announce a new FS5II E-mount camcorder:

Source 1: Camcorder similar to the Sony FS5 . With global shutter.

Source 2:  I was told that I should wait with my purchase of FS5 now. Because it is highly possible that new camcorder with 4k60p is coming on NAB (because of URSA mini PRO and GH5).

UPDATE:M Seems like the rumors are not correct. I got info the FS5II will now NOT be announced at NAB.

Reminder: Sony has a press conference scheduled for April 23 at 3 am Las Vegas time (NAB show start).

Rumor recap and small new info: Is the soon to be announced new FF “High Speed” E-mount camera a Sony A7sIII?

As we reported here on SAR Sony will have a new product announcement on April 23. The most reliable info so far is that:

  1. There will be a new High End E-mount FF camera
  2. This camera is all about speed: fastest AF of all Sony E-mount cameras, around 20fps, unlimited RAW recording
  3. Dual SD card
  4. Bit larger than current A7II camera series
  5. It has a joystick control on the back
  6. New FE lenses coming (16-35mm f/2.8 GM and 100-400mm FE G)

But it’s unclear yet what camera this is. These are the possibilities:

  1. New special Sony A9 camera (or A8 or whatever): Which means first of a new line.
  2. New Sony A7III camera with high speed AF and FPS
  3. New Sony A7sIII camera with high speed AF and FPS and terrific High ISO performance

It may be that the long time rumored new High End FF E-mount camera (tentatively named “A9” in the prototype stage) will indeed be a new generation A7 cameras which will be placed above the current line (in terms of price, size and obviously performance). And the last few days I got some yet to be confirmed hints that the camera is going to be very similar to the current A7II series (just a bit larger) and that the camera might be a new Sony A7sIII. But this is far from confirmed yet so don’t hold me accountable yet on that….

Zeiss reminder: the new Batis 135mm f/2.8 will be announced next week (April 4th or April 5th)

Two new Sony camera registered in Asia: One is a new FF E-mount camera and one a new RX?

Nokishita reports that Sony registered two new cameras with the following codes:

  • WW361847
    • Wi-Fi・Bluetooth
  • WW620081
    • Wi-Fi・Bluetooth

And we know that one of those new cameras is for sure a new E-mount FF camera. Usually it takes 1-2 months after registration before the camera gets officially announced. As I reported before the new Sony FF E-mount camera is a high speed camera which means: Fastest AF of all E-mount cameras to date, around 20fps, low resolution sensor, dual SD card, unlimited RAW burst recording. It will probably a new “A7” kind of camera.

It’s yet unclear what the other camera might be but I guess it’s a fixed lens camera (probably a new RX?).
