(SR1) The Impossible rumors…(A7r Mark III and a 2017 roadmap)

sony-a7III

This is a new chapter of the “impossible” rumors I received form anonymous source. Please read the note at the bottom to understand what those “impossible rumors” are.

Source 1: Sony A7rIII

I work in the Broadcast industry, written to you before. I have good connections with Sony Broadcast and buy equipment from them.
Was down at “XXX” (Editor’s note: name removed) looking as some Sony IP switching solutions. They know I am a keen Sony person as I own an a7Rii and FS5 with a ton of FE lenses, keen hobbyist.
Although I have pre ordered my a6500 was told new upgraded a7Rii will have
70-80 Meg sensor, apparently they like the market position Phase One has so they are cool with that. Not sure what the new camera slated for mid 2017 will be called.
Dual card slots (obviously)
Working on an even newer processor (Wow) and this thing apparently will work at mega processing speeds, buffer overflows an inconvenient fact of history.
Still cannot get any firm details but Sony are working on some ground breaking sensor technology in line with the new processing technology. What this means I am not sure but I guess to keep up with the new colour depths on 4K TVs they want something that will grade very nicely in say DaVinci Resolve to yield outstanding picture/colour quality.
Last but in my opinion the best is they will be radically overhauling IBIS as you know Olympus are pretty awesome in this field.
They want to improve “run and gun” so that might make my SteadXP kickstarter order redundant (if it ever materialises)
Maybe they will use the same principles as SteadXP and process on board who knows for a max 20% crop, but could be an exciting prospect for IBIS.

5: A7S II succesor
Third event

7: Highend Compact camera

Notes on those kind of (im-)possible rumors:

  • Fake rumors sent by so claimed sources that are known to create fake rumors are NOT included. What you see here are messages I got from unknown sources where I have no track of any “rumor history”
  • It’s by readers request that I create this sum up of low ranked rumors. But please remind all that these are not rumors from trusted sources and don’t count me accountable on those kind of very low ranked rumors :)
  • The last year a couple of those rumors were right (RX1rII and A6300 specs). So miracles sometimes can happen :)

Metabones Unveils Fifth-Generation Smart Adapters on Fifth Anniversary

Press text:

Vancouver, Canada, January 18, 2017 – Metabones unveils 4 new products on the fifth anniversary of the original Smart Adapter. They are EF to E CINE Smart Adapter™, EF to E CINE Speed Booster ULTRA, EF to E Smart Adapter V and EF to E Speed Booster ULTRA II.

The headline feature of EF to E CINE Smart Adapter and EF to E CINE Speed Booster ULTRA is a positive-lock EF lens mount carried over from the critically acclaimed Metabones EF-FZ CINE Smart Adapter, a perfect companion to the positive-lock mount of the new Sony FS7 Mark II camera.
All 4 new products are equipped with a rubber gasket to protect the E-mount connection from dust and moisture. To promote ease-of-use, an LED indicates the adapter’s operation mode, optical image stabilization operation and communication status. A dedicated switch controls in-body image stabilization (IBIS) on Sony cameras equipped with SteadyShot INSIDE.
EF to E CINE Speed Booster ULTRA and EF to E Speed Booster ULTRA II feature the same world-renowned Speed Booster ULTRA optics by Caldwell Photographic and WB Designs that make lenses brighter, wider and sharper.
Metabones recounts the beginnings of the world’s first fully electronic EF to E mount adapter 5 years ago, with only aperture control and auto-magnify (requires lens with distance information) but no autofocus support back then. Over the years firmware work has significantly expanded its capabilities. Today, the very same original Smart Adapter, though long discontinued, can still be upgraded to leverage the latest firmware benefits such as smooth iris (lens support required), fast contrast detection autofocus on all E-mount cameras, eye-AF, direct manual focus (DMF), zoom and distance display (requires lens with distance information), assignable custom button and 5-axis image stabilization (requires camera support).
Since the advent of the original EF to E Smart Adapter 5 years ago, Metabones has assumed a pivotal role in the mirrorless revolution. Cinematographers and photographers all over the world are armed with unprecedented flexibility of lens and camera choice.
EF to E CINE Smart Adapter will be available in February 2017 for USD 449 plus applicable taxes, duties and shipping, and EF to E CINE Speed Booster ULTRA will be offered at the same time for USD 699 plus applicable taxes, duties and shipping. Availability and pricing of EF to E Smart Adapter V and EF to E Speed Booster ULTRA II are to be determined.

a7ii
Image above shows the A7II with Gariz case

Previously a source told us the A7 mark III is due for a Q2 release. We received a small update:

A European source confirmed the release schedule. He added the camera will start shipping in mid 2017 and the yet “unconfirmed” price for Europe will be 2299€. The new A7III will not replace the current A7II. The A7II will continue to be produced and sold for a lower price tag.

A roundup of future tech hints from Sony (16-35mm GM, dual card A7 cameras and more Megapixels)

sony_sel1635z_vario_tessar_t_e_16_35mm_1082052

Image on top shows the current 16-35mm f/4.0 Zeiss FE lens

Before to start with a new bunch of 2017 rumors. Let’s do this: This is a roundup of statements and hints revealed or hinted by Sony itself that reveal what could happen in 2017:

Next generation A7 cameras:
Sony told Jeff Remas dual card slot FE cameras are coming

16-35mm f/2.8 GM:
Sony photographer hints the new 16-35mm GM is really coming

A-mount lenses:
Sony is conducting surveys to establish what lens they need to develop for the A-mount system. And they also told Dan M Lee they will refresh some of their current lenses. This proves once more that A-mount isn’t a dead system :)

85mm A-mount Zeiss:
Sony removed it from the main A-mount page.

Medium Format:
Sony has no plan to go medium format yet.

Autofocus:
Sony acknowledged they have to improve the autofocus speed to match the best in the class.

STF lens:
Mr. Motoyuki Otake from Sony said an STF FE lens is in the works.

Megapixel race:
Sony confirmed the Megapixel number will increase on the next generation cameras.

One more thing: Sigma FE:
Sigma CEO confirmed they are developing FE lenses.

(SR5) Sony will announce a new “budget” 85mm FE lens in 2017

[shoplink 54647][/shoplink]
The image above shows the [shoplink 54647]50mm f/1.8[/shoplink]

Ok we got our first SR5 rumors of the year (highly reliable source and 90% chance the information is correct). To not miss more of those rumors subscribe our RSS feed, join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

This is the info I got from a reliable source: Sony will launch a new “budget” 85mm FE lens in 2017. The source didn’t unveil the aperture of the lens. He only said it will be a companion for the 50mm f/1.8 ([shopcountry 54647]). I guess this one will have an f/1.8 aperture too.

The two FE lenses that are coming in 2017 for sure are:

1) 16-35mm f/2.8 GM FE
2) 85mm f/1.8 FE (aperture is unconfirmed but I think almost certainly right)

And for sure there will be many more new FE lenses in 2017 (including telephoto lenses). I hope to get info about those soon…

This info has been posted on SonyAlphaRumors first. Please do not repost without credit. Thanks :)
