Sony invitation for a November 8 product launch event in Barcelona

sonybarc

This is the invitation for a Sony event in Barcelona. It says Sony will show you the last new products. This should be for the FS7II. But maybe Sony has a few more surprises too to show?

Thansk Aayham!

Note: November 8th 19:00 Barcelona time corresponds to November 9th in Japan. So it matches our rumors posted yesterday.

(SR5) Sony FS7II E-mount camcorder announcement on November 9

fs7ii

I got the information the new E-mount camcorder (FS7II) will be actually announced on November 9. And it’s really not secret that Sony will announce a new camcorder because they invited many known video bloggers at an event in Barcelona. I just got this via SAR reader P.:

Today Sony has reunited most of the video bloggers in barcelona. That includes Dan Cheung, Philip Bloom and Emmanuel Pampuri among others to launch a new camera from sony pro europe. All of them signed an NDA.
You can check them all trying to say that they’re on vacation in Barcelona: https://www.facebook.com/epampuri/videos/10155035117114796/

The question now is how long do we have to wait for the next Sony announcement?

  1. We know the 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens is coming soon but I guess Sony will first have to sort out their 70-200mm GM production issues related to the “unexpected high demand” of this lens.
  2. The A7 mark III is likely to be announced in Q2 2017
  3. The new High End E-mount camera with larger body and dual XQD card slot (could be named A8 or A9 or maybe A7rIII?) could be announced first half 2017.

Yosuke Aoki (Sony) says they will not go medium format yet

Sony A7rII vs Hasselblad X1D size comparison (CameraSize).

Yosuke Aoki (Sony) got interviewed by the folks from Focus Numerique (google translation here). When asked about the possibility fo Sony making a medium format camera he said:

Naturally, we can not talk about future products … However, we believe the 24×36 sensor currently has more potential. This is our most versatile opinion, and we are focusing our research on this type of sensor. Once again, we are vigilant and we look at the development of other sectors.

camera-sensor-size-comparison-650x492Sensor size comparison by Photographylife

I think the image quality difference between FF and the small 44×36 Medium Format sensor is too small to make a real difference. As reported by photographylife:

  • Full-Frame is 236% larger than APS-C and typically 2x-4x more expensive
  • Medium Format Small (Pentax 645Z, Hasselblad X1D-50c, Fuji GFX 50S) is 167% larger than full-frame and typically ~3.7x more expensive
  • Medium Format Large (Hasselblad H6D-100c) is 149% larger than Medium Format Small and 3.7x more expensive

The Full Frame system has much more potential in terms of flexibility, portability and costs for now. But if Sony is reading me…a fixed lens RX medium format camera with the larger 53.7 x 40.4 101 Megapixel sensor…well that would e quite a story! Do it do it do it! :)

The following info comes via the one source who shared the full 100% correct A99II specs back in August. So let’s hope he is right on that rumor he shared today:

He just told me the next Sony A7 camera that will be announced is the new Sony A7 mark III. He doesn’t know the exact announcement date but the camera is expected to start shipping in Q2 2017 (March-June timeframe).

No info on specs yet. Any secial wishlist from SAR readers? What do you hope to get on the new camera?

Sony “unofficially” confirms new E-mount camera with dual card slot is on their roadmap!

Jeff Remas was ready to buy the new Sony A99II but changed his mind after a conversation with a Sony manager. Jeff needs a camera with dual card slot and the Sony manager told him that such a camera is on Sony’s roadmap. This is one more confirmation of our rumors saying that Sony’s next High End camera would be bigger and placed above the current A7 cameras line. And that it would have [shoplink 46602 ebay]dual XQD card slot[/shoplink] and unlimited RAW burst.

The question now is…when will it be announced? Early or late 2017?
