(SR2) Couple of new RX100mV rumors. Switching to UFS cards?

UFS
I got two new info about the possible next RX100mV launch. Particularly the second source shared some great info:

Source 1:

“the RX100 mark V will announced once the Kumamoto fab is fully operational and putting out the necessary newly designed sensors”

Source 2:

“The new compact and high speed Sony camera (RX100 V) will switch from SD Card to UFS Card storage. The card size is similar to microSD saveing space in the camera body and the speed increased to up to 600MB/s enabling longer slowmo Videos and higher FPS shooting. Sony will if this is succesful also use this format in future higher class cameras”

Androidauthority just recently wrote an article highlighting the advantages of the new UFS cards. Of course there is the smaller size compared to SD cards. But the UFS cards are also much faster and do consume less energy:

That would be really a smart move from Sony!

The next five weeks Samyang will announce five new lenses every Monday

Samyang is going to bring quite some buzz this summer. On their Facebook page they teased the launch of 5 new lenses (I guess all coming in 5 different mounts too which makes a total of 25):

“5 NEW Samyang Lenses will be released on every Monday for the next five weeks.”

For sure there are going to be some new E-mount lenses too!

P.S.: Samyang if you read this…where are our two new FE autofocus lenses?

Thanks Kamran!

Sony promise to have an exciting 2016 will be only partially fulfilled

There was a lot of excitement end of 2015 for the coming 2016. Sony manager Mr. Yutaka Iwatsuki stated at Focus Numerique (google translation here) that “2016 will be even more impressive!“. Mr Masashi Wakatsuki when asked about the possible Sony RX medium format camera said that “every option is open at Sony.“. And many times Sony managers said A-mount is well alive and that there will be new products.

But now all the excitement has come less as Sony has to struggle with the Kumamoto disaster. Only by August the full sensor production capability will be recovered (that’s 4 months after the earthquake).

It’s July now and we only got one new system camera this year (the A6300). The “usual” June announcement sessions has been completely canceled. And at Photokina I do expect Sony to announce only a limited version of their roadmap. I do hope the A9 and A99II will be introduced but maybe those cameras will ship in very late 2016 or early 2017 only. The third generation A7 series is likely to be introduced in 2017 and not this year (starting from the A7m3).

There is no issue with the Sony lens line up. The only “delay” is on the 70200mm FE GM lens. This is due the high request of the [shoplink 47915]24-70mm GM lens[/shoplink] and Sony has to produce enough of those lenses first…

In summary: The first 8 months of the year were not that exciting as promised by Sony. But of course this is not their fault. But starting from end 2016 I do hope we will finally get some awesome new camera. An A9 would be nice, and the A99II as a “must” release for the patient A-mount folks!

(SR5) Bad news for German folks (and probably rest of EU to): Sony price increases will start on August 1!

currency

Sony Germany officially notified German stores about an upcoming price increase on almost all camera and lenses starting from August 1. Prices will go up by in some cases by almost 20%. Also the price of the new [shoplink 48072]85mm GM lens[/shoplink] will go up 100 Euro!
It’s unclear if that increase will be extended to the rest of Europe too (I guess the answer is yes). The reason for the price increase should be the fall of the EURO currency compared to the YEN (-18,9% in one year).

So be warned, if there is some camera or lens you plan to buy do it before August 1! Store links: [shopcountry 48072].

One more news for German readers: The prime day deals are alreayd starting to being listed at Amazon Germany (Click here to see them). There is some Sony stuff!

Sony 8K E-mount prototype picture: Should the A9 look like that?

SonyA9

Weeks ago a trusted source confirmed Sony is developing a new A9 camera. The size will be in between a classic DSLR and the current A7 line. If you wonder how such a camera could look well look at that prototype shows by Sony back at NAB 2013. So the question now is:

Would you consider to buy a bigger and more "DSLR" styled A9 camera?

(SR2) First A5xxx spec rumors…

[shoplink 45795 ebay][/shoplink]

It’s about time the [shoplink 45795 ebay]A5100[/shoplink] gets replaced. I yet have no reliable info from trusted sources about the possible successor specs. All I got so far is info from an anonymous source saying this:

“A5300 coming this summer. Same sensor as A6300, selfie touchscreen, 4K, GPS, WiFi/NFC. No EVF.”

Sounds logical…

Kumamoto rumor roadmap change and Sony A9 confirmations….

Shipment

Newly published CIPA data confirms the camera shipment fall after the Kumamoto earthquake (PDF file here).

It’s already difficult to write reliable rumors in regular times. Now this year it’s even harder because of the Kumamoto earthquake consequences. Sony had to rework the entire product launch roadmap for 2016. So this is a brief list of info I can tell you right now:

  1. Sony had a planed product announcement event for June. New RX and new entry level A5xxx was likely to be introduced. It’s not clear yet if Sony will not launch those at Photokina….
  2. I confirm via highly trusted sources the new high end Sony camera is still on the roadmap for launch this year. We call the camera “Sony A9” but it’s not 100% sure this is the very final exact name. Anyway, the info comes via the same sources wh shared the correct RX1rII and GM lens specs (we posted those rumors (link1, link2) many months ahead of the respective product announcement).
  3. New A7 series cameras will come in 2017
  4. New GM, Batis and Loxia lenses will be announced at Photokina.

In those days I got also rumors from anonymous and unknown sources. I ask those sources to be patient. I will try to verify their info before to post them on SAR. And If I can’t do that I will post them as low ranked SR2 rumors sometimes later…
