The same trusted source who shared the 100% correct Zeiss Batis lens specs contacted me to confirm that Sony will launch a new “85mm G lens” this year. He didn’t share any more detail but other sources said the lens should have a f/1.4 aperture and very creamy bokeh performance.

I only have one very small doubt: The source didn’t actually tell me if the lens is A or E-mount. I just suppose he meant E-mount based on the roadmap we have from Sony. I hope the source will correct me if I am wrong!

This is from an anonymous source. Rarely these kind of rumors turns out to be correct. But I thought the specs look so good you may tell me if you would really buy such a camera! This is what the source said:

A source claimed to have seen an early prototype of the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 lens. It was not labeled as Zeiss. This means he is not sure yet the lens will get the Zeiss or Sony “G” badge on it. The lens has been designed to have an extremely nice bokeh.

The lens is scheduled to hit the market in September/October.

We are all excited about the latest Sony A7rII and RX cameras. So what could be so special on the rumored “a7000” APS-C E-mount camera to make as “Wow” again? Well, we have the answer: The Sony A7000 is rumored to be the first system camera of the world having a native “on sensor HDR” feature. This means both images and recorded video are capable of 15.5 stops of dynamic range!

I don’t know yet in detail how this works on the A7000. I know the [shoplink 38262 ebay]Xperia Z smartphone[/shoplink] has a similar on sensor HDR tech. If they use the same technique on the A7000 than this is how it works (via Image Sensor World):

How HDR video recording works
To achieve true HDR video recording, the advanced Exmor RS camera sensor in Xperia Z changes the exposure every two lines of pixels. This creates a spatially varying exposure (SVE) array image, which is then used to make an image that is perfectly exposed in both dark and light areas.
To simplify the concept, for each frame the camera shoots one picture with two different exposure levels at the same time, one light and one dark. Then, an intelligent software algorithm is used to combine (synthesize) the two shots into one picture, pixel by pixel. This allows you to see the details of both the dark and the bright parts of the picture.

HDR for still images
With HDR for still images, the camera quickly captures the image twice with different exposure levels and stitches the two shots together to create one optimised photo. This way, HDR lets you capture clear photos even against strong backlight. HDR is automatically activated when Superior Auto detects scenes with strong backlight.

Sony employees strongly hinted that announcement for the 6 new FE lenses is imminent and scheduled for later this week or early next week. They did not reveal (or did not know) any details of the actual lenses, however.

Other sources didn’t confirm the launch date but they said a fast 85mm prime and tele lenses will be on the new roadmap. You have any special lens wishes? :)

Tamron patented the design of a new 24mm f/2.0 FE lens with optical stabilization. Tamron is known for designing some Sony and Zeiss branded lenses. I guess this could become a Sony 24mm f/2.0 G lens if it gets released. Short question to SAR readers:
