An anonymous source sent me this:

“As far as I have understood it, the A7R II is still just 36MP, with IBIS, better ISO and speed. It will come with some other features, we’ve been told :)”

And another source also added that Sony is working on a new RAW engine. It could be implemented on the new A7rII.

The A7rII, A6100 and new RX cameras will be announced within mid May and end of June in (likely) separate announcements.

The rumor comes from an old source who shared correct info in the past. After two-year absence he contacted me back. This doesn’t mean we can be sure the info he shares is correct. As it happened in the past also those kind of source may get wrong info from their contacts. Anyway, this is what he wrote to me:

“there’s no A7000 (NEX-7 replacement), but rather an A6000 replacement coming soon. The A6100 has 24.3MP with 1080p XAVCS codec, so looks like no 4K for now. But this is just the info from the importer, so not 100% confirmed :-/“

So far the rumors are that new E-mount stuff will come soon: The A7rII will be very likely announced in May. The A6100 may come son the same event or a month later in late June.

A couple of readers sent me that image that is floating on websites and forums (like Douban, DCfever and so on). I am 99,9% sure it’s fake. Although it’s easy to guess that the real future A7sII will be similar to the current A7II. The specs are also too good to be true. Or will Sony surprises us?

RX100m4 may has a larger FT sensor similar to the one of the LX100.

Yesterdays Sony announcement create quite some disappointment. And a lesson I learned is that I have to make it very clear what’s a rumor and what’s a speculation of mine. The rumor I posted about the April 23 event were right (SR5 rumor 1 and SR5 rumor 2). While my speculations (here) that those two “new cameras” could be new RX cameras were wrong. Knowing that there was no E-mount stuff coming on that event I simply deducted that those could be RX cameras. Didn’t expect Sony to display the two 30x cameras to the European press (See for example Fotopolis London report). There was no wrong SR5 rumor but just me having wrong speculations. And I learned that I have to be careful whenever I express my private deductions and hopes! Such a mistake I will not repeat again.

Moving on: Here is the RX camera rumors recap:
(SR5) There will be at least one new RX camera announcement in May-June (SAR article here).
(SR4) It’s rumored that there will be a new RX100m4 camera. Probably with FT size sensor in RX100m3 alike body (SAR article here).
(SR3) RX1X (unclear when it will be released and what kind of camera it is) (SAR article here).

So let’s restart from these three rumors. Please weight the ranking of the rumors and always be aware this is a rumor and not a press release news site :)

Sony is set to announce new RX, A7 and A6000 cameras series between now and June.

Just to keep you up to date: Today Sony has a press event and so far the only certain news is that they will show two cameras and that there will be no A-mount cameras. And another press event for E-mount is scheduled for May. So what we can expect today at around 14:00 London time is:

1) Sony just introduces the two 30x compact cameras in Europe (X90V and the WX500).
2) Sony announces new RX cameras.
3) Sony announces some other surprise too.

So far I am almost certain the new A7rII and A6100 cameras will be announced in 2-3 weeks around mid May. I guess either option 1 or 2 will happen today. Option 1 would be really a joke but hey…it’s Sony :)

I know you are all happy because of the great Zeiss announcement (full press here on SAR). But do not forget that within a few hours (April 23 at 13.00 London time) Sony will announce new cameras!

UPDATE: This was a BOGUS announcement. Sony used the press event to ontroduce the two 30x cameras :(

If true it really looks like Sony engineers could win a Nobel Prize in Miniaturization technology :)
A trusted source told me that the RX100m4 with much larger Four Thirds sensor manages to have the same weight of the RX100m3. And the size is just a tiny bit larger. The camera will remain perfectly pocketable.

It’s still unconfirmed if the camera will be announced tomorrow (April 23) or in May (with the new E-mount cam announcement).

I am 100% sure tomorrow at 13.00 London time Sony will announce new cameras! So stay tuned on SAR to get live coverage about the new cameras!
