Opticallimits tested the 16-35mm GM lens:

The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM is certainly a good lens but it has a couple of flaws as well. The lens has been optimized for the lower part of the focal length range – which is certainly most important for most buyers anyway. The corner performance isn’t great at fully open aperture except at the sweet spot around 20mm. The performance is decent at longer focal lengths but it stays a little short of the very high exceptations at least. That being said – keep in mind that today’s high resolution sensors are killers.

Alin Popescu posted his final A7III review:

“Same as it did the little a6000 (still on sale and production), I think the A7 III will last longer. It’s a great camera, the best money can buy for it’s incredible features list. I already know a bunch of people who took the step and have changed boats because of the A7 III. More are going to come.”

Lightroom Classic CC 7.3 supports ARQ (Sony Pixel Shift) files

Marc Alhadeff reports:

A little gift from Adobe , not even present in the release notes of Lightroom:
The Lightroom Classic CC 7.3 issued in April 2018 and that was announcing the support of the A7III, also supports the display and editing of the ARQ files of the A7RIII
As a reminder an ARQ file (343Mo) is created from 4 ARW files created via the Pixel Shift Option of the A7RIII
You still need Sony software View/Edit to transform the ARW files into an ARQ, but then this ARQ file is directly readable and editable in Lightroom , no need to convert it anymore to a dng proxy (see below)

Cascable 3.4 released, including support for the α7R III, α7 III, α9, and more!

I’m contacting you because we’re releasing updates to our products that I think will be of great interest to your audience.
We’ve just released the latest update to our mobile toolkit for your WiFi-enabled camera, Cascable.

This release adds support for Sony’s newest lineup of cameras, including the α7R III, α7 III, and α9. Unfortunately, Sony has removed several remote control features from these cameras, which affects the features Cascable is able to provide when connected to these cameras.

We’re disappointed that Sony have gone backwards in this area. Their Smart Remote Control app provided an open and powerful platform for remote control over Wi-Fi, and crippling their newer cameras with reduced remote control functionality hurts what are otherwise an incredibly impressive lineup of cameras.

We hope Sony re-adds this functionality in future firmware updates.

Additionally, this release adds a great quality-of-life feature: Quick Connect. Now, with any camera that displays a QR code on its display when using WiFi, you can scan that code with Cascable to automatically join that camera’s WiFi network and connect to it!
