(SR5) Sony will soon announce a new High End E-mount camera!

Today Sony registered a new camera with the code “WW942051” in Asia. We can pretty safely say this is a new High End E-mount camera because the camera features the same 5.8GHz Wifi first introduced with the A7rIV. So this camera must be one of these three:

  • Sony A7sIII
  • Sony A9II
  • Sony A6700

My very personal bet goes on the A6700. But that’s just my pure speculation.

Sony now has a total of three new cameras that will be announced in August/September. Two of them should be entry level cameras (could be RX or/and A5100 successor) and a High End camera:

1) A new low-mid level camera with 2.4GHz WiFi (code WW594724)
2) A new low-mid level camera with 2.4GHz WiFi (code WW642826)
3) New High End camera with 5.8GHz Wifi first introduced with the A7rIV (code WW942051).

There is an exciting time ahead and I am already receiving first info about a new announcement in August! Stay tuned folks!

Dynamic range comparison: Fuji GFX100 versus the Sony A7rIII

Photons To Photos measure the Dynamic Range of the new Fuji GFX100. As expected it has improved over the previous 50Mp Sony sensor. I do not think the new Sony A7rIV will do noticeably better than the A7rIII. Jim Kasson speculated that this will be indeed the case:

The  SNR in the deep-shadow end of the a7RIV will very slightly exceed that of the a7RIII. But even then, there will be no material difference between the two cameras in terms of shadow noise.
So, unless Sony has a trick up their corporate sleeve, the photographic dynamic range of the a7RIV is going to be about the same as the a7RIII.

New Canon EOS-R will have more Megapixels than the new Sony A7rIV ?

Sony A7rIV will ship in the USA from Sept 12 at BHphoto, Adorama, Amazon.

CanonWatch reports about a new high-resolution EOS-R camera:

the upcoming EOS R will have a resolution “way beyond the Sony a7R IV“.

There are wild guesses that Sony launched the A7rIV earlier than expected because they knew Canon would launch a new High Resolution EOS-R camera in September/October. This is a wild guess but I know that Sony had rushed the launch of the previous A7rIII after Nikon had launched the D850.
