New Zeiss camera teaser!

This is the next Zeiss teaser image. Like I told you before this is what to expect:

– Announcement before Photokina
– This is a fixed lens Full Frame camera
– It uses Sony tech (probably RX1II based).
– Price around $3,000
– Priobably has a prime lens (35mm f/2.0?)
– Slightly bigger lens construction than you get on the Sony RX1 series.
– lens is autofocus

Z7 cost 500 pounds more than the A7rIII…after the hype reality kicks in :)

Specs leaked by Nokishita got updated with UK pricing info

We got the first Nikon Z7Z6 versus Sony A7rIIIA7III specs comparison table. Of course we need to see how the real camera works to make a sensible comparison. Plus there are many detailed specs we still don’t know. But just for fun let’s analyze what we know so far:

Sony A7rIII vs Nikon Z7:
The Nikon Z7 costs 500 pounds more than the A7rIII. But from the specs it’s clear the Z7 is slightly ahead in terms of autofocus points. Otherwise we are more or less on par.
But damn it, the Z7 costs really a lot more! We can expect a 400-500$ price difference in the USA.
So while Nikon was able to match the A7rIII performance we have to say the A7rIII is nearly 1 year old and cheaper! Moreover expect the Nikon to be in Stock by Christmas only. I bet a new A7rIV or A9r could be announced in 10-12 months already if Sony feels they have to create a new technological step forward.

Sony A7III vs Nikon Z6:
Both should have the exact same pricing. In that case the A7III beats the hell out of the Nikon in terms of autofocus performance while it’s a bit crippled by the not so good EVF.

To sum up: The Nikon is not a Sony killer but it will certainly reach the goal to convince many Nikon DSLR shooters to buy into Nikon mirrorless instead of Sony mirrorless (aka stop or slow down the bleeding).

On the other hand Nikon DSLR owners should also consider this:
– Sony will soon launch a new A7sIII which is going to be stunning (5.6 million EVF, new sensor with much improved low light performance, new autofocus system and 4k60p).
– Sony also has E-mount APS-C cameras or cheaper second and third generation FF bodies
– 29 native E-mount lenses available now
– A history of innovation Nikon will only play catch up with. So what the A7sIII will do now Nikon can nly hope to match o 1-2 years later.

(SR3) First rumors about a possible Sony camera announcement happening next week…

I got two rumors about a possible Sony announcement next week. One of the sources told me that Sony might announce two compact cameras before the IFA Berlin opening. I don’t know if these are small point and shoot cameras or if this means we are also getting a new A6xxx APS-C E-mount camera. For sure it doesn’t sound we are getting the new A7sIII now (I think it’s more likely it will be announced at PhotoPlus).

Short reminder of what to expect to be announced soon:
– New High End APS-C E-mount camera
– New A7sIII
– New fixed lens Zeiss FF camera made in collaboration with Sony
– 24mm f/1.4 and possibily the 135mm f/1.8 GM too
– New Voigtlander FE lenses coming
– New 50mm f/1.4 APS-C E-mount from Sigma
– New 70-200mm f/2.8 FF E-mount lens from Sigma

(SR5) First image of the new Zeiss Full Frame camera!

After many many years Zeiss will finally announce a new camera! This is the first image of this new Zeiss camera posted by Zeiss on Weibo. Here is what our sources told us about this camera so far:
– Announcement before Photokina
– This is a fixed lens Full Frame camera
– It uses Sony tech (probably RX1II based).
– Price around $3,000
– Priobably has a prime lens (35mm f/2.0?)
– Slightly bigger lens construction than you get on the Sony RX1 series.
– lens is autofocus
I am so happy to see that the makers of the great [shoplink 23713 ebay]Zeiss Ikon[/shoplink] and [shoplink 73897 ebay]Zeiss Contax[/shoplink] cameras are coming back! I hope their next step will be an E-mount system camera…I know I am going to fast with my dreams. For now let’s enjoy this comeback!
UPDATE: This is an official teaser image posted by Zeiss. Note that the rumored info here is not disclosed by Zeiss but is from our sources:
The text of the image says:
“There is still something missing in Zeiss’s product line and the photography community
It’s time for more Zeiss SAR
Time for a new Zeiss milestone”

(SR4) Zeiss will soon announced a fixed lens Full Frame camera made with Sony tech!

Image on top shows the Sony RX1RII

The following info is from a trusted source that shared correct rumors multiple times in the past. Still, until it’s not confirmed I cannot be 100% sure it’s true. But I trust the source and therefore let’s move straight to this very hot rumor:

Zeiss is announcing a fixed lens ff camera very soon (100% confirmed) .

He also shared this:

I heard the camera body is Sony technology and the price is around $3,000. But these are not confirmed information.  They also published a 35f2 patent for fixed lens camera a month ago.  The patent title claims “highest optical quality” which is very unusual. The lens construction is slightly bigger than Rx1 and it does autofocus.  The worst scenario is that we get a re-branded rx1rii.

What’s unclear yet if that’s a Sony built camera branded as Zeiss camera or if this is really an independent and direct Zeiss project. I am a big [shoplink 23713 ebay]Zeiss Ikon fan (see them on eBay)[/shoplink] and would love if this Zeiss camera would have that minimalistic and classic design. Of course I would have even liked it more if it would be E-mount. But I hope this is just the first step and Zeiss might launch an E-mount camera in the near future too!

Here is the next big WOW moment: Zeiss will soon announce the new Otus 100mm f/1.4 lens

Photokina is getting closer and Zeiss is surely going to make a big splash on the Internet with that one: They will announce a new Otus 100mm f/1.4 lens with 86mm filter size and possibly a $5,000+ price tag!

As usual with Otus lenses it will be available in Canon and Nikon mount only. So you can use them on Sony cameras via adapter.

But don’t worry folks, we just got the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 native E-mount lens which I bet gives you 98% of the Otus performance for a third of the price. And it’s going to ship in a few days already:

You can preorder this lens now at at BHphoto, FocusCamera, Amazon and Adorama. In Europe at Calumet and WexUK.
