24mm lenses for your A7 and A7r

The NEX-VG900 camera and the lenses. Image courtesy David.

With only two 35mm and 55mm primes coming with the A7 and A7r these are some possible third party lens options for the 24mm focal length. I would be glad if you could share test and impression of these lenses used on a Leica or Sony Vg900 camera. It could be useful for all future A7/A7r camera owners. Thanks!

The list contains lenses deisgned for a mirrorles ssystem (not for DSLR systems):. This because I guess size matters if you buy the A7 :)

(SR5) A7-A7r sketch shows the real camera design!

There are no leaked images of the A7 and A7r cameras yet but a trusted Asian source sent me a sketch that shows exactly how the real cameras will look! I showed the image to other sources and all said that this is 100% the real camera design! I repeat it… I am 100% sure THIS is the real A7/A7r camera!!! The camera is weathersealed and has the size of an Olympus OMD. And it has a solid [shoplink 21676 ebay]Pentax LX feeling[/shoplink].

These cameras will be announced on October 16 at 5-6am London time. And if you want to be sure to be the first in the world to get notified when the cameras are available for preorder or in Stock in US/EU stores subscribe DealsRunner.com (and here is the How To to learn how to get notified on a specific camera).

And now the question:

Would you buy into an new Sony medium format system with curved sensor tech?

(SR5) There is also a 70-200mm f/4.0 FE Zeiss!

The Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 FE lens specs

We can add one more lens in the FE range, the 70-200mm f/4.0 OSS FE Zeiss. I also have been told that all lenses are weathersealed (just like the A7 and A7r cameras). So here is the list of lenses Sony will announce next week on October 16 at 5-6am London time (be sure to be on SonyAlphaRumors at that time to follow the event live):

Zeiss FE 24-70mm f/4.0 OSS (likely on market in early 2014)
Sony G 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 (don’t know if it’s OSS)
Zeiss FE 35mm f/2.8 (with that lens on the A7/A7R) the camera-lens size is the same of the RX1/R)
Zeiss FE 55mm f/1.8
Zeiss FE 70-200mm f/4.0 OSS (likely on market in early 2014)

I have been told there is a lens roadmap that Sony could show too.

(SR5) More sources confirm: A7 and A7r sensors are brand new (and fake A7r image warning)

First a warning: The image on top that is floating on all forums is a FAKE!!!! All source I asked said it’s 100% fake. So please let it know to everyone that this is not the A7r.

And now the good news: I asked my sources to give me more info on the A7 (24MP) and A7r (36MP) sensors. They all confirmed that the A7 and A7r sensors are newly designed FF sensor. Exclusively made for them to overcome the issues of the ultra short flange distance. Wide Anlge lenses will perform much better on the A7 and A7r than on the VG900 E-mount FF sensor. In short: these camera do not use the Sony A99 or Nikon D800E sensor!

One more additon to my 21mm lens roundup. The best review I found on 21mm lens has been posted by Ronscheffler.com (Click here). As you know there want be many FE lenses yet. So most of you are likely going ot use third party lenses via adpater.  Here again some of the 21mm lenses you can buy. My next roundup is about 24mm lenses and you may send me your reviews of these lenses on a Leica or VG900 camera at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com. Here are the links to the lenses:

(SR5) More A7/A7r specs and info

[shoplink 21677 ebay][/shoplink]

There was already an A7 in our history: The image on top shows the [shoplink 21677 ebay]Minolta A7[/shoplink]…great camera!

Here are a couple of A7/A7r info I got from many sources:

1) AF is faster than the RX series but still not as fast as the best in the mirrorless world
2) A7 and A7r have focus peaking
3) eye tracking AF
4) they are about same size as the Olympus OMD series
5) There is an optional vertical grip
6) They have Wifi and NFC
7) no Tri Navi, They had scroll wheels in front and back (which were very much like nex-7’s) and an exposure comp wheel from RX1.
8) One source the body quality is very good and the camera had a [shoplink 21676 ebay]Pentax LX feeling[/shoplink].
9) 1/8000 shutter speed
10) both have tiltatble screen

What we already know is. Both cameras have no IBIS, both have same body design, both have an integrated EVF on top (middle) of the camera. NEX-7 grip and a slihly OMD look. A7 has 24MP sensor with on sensor PDAF (and AA filter. A7r has 36MP sensor without PDAF and without AA filter. A7 with 28-70mm f/3-5-5.6 kit lens will cost under 2000 Dolalr/Euro. A7r body only will cost around 2300-2400 Dollar/Euro. There will be also three Zeiss lenses: 24-70mm f/4.0, 35mm f/2.8 and 55mm f/1.8. But I have been told they may show more lenses that are on roadmap.

Very important: Announcement next week on Wednesday October 16 at around 5-6am London time. You can follow the announcement live here on SonyAlphaRumors. As usual we will update you live with news, tests, first samples and early preorders links!

(SR5) The two zooms aperture info (Sony G and Zeiss)

The Sony 28-70mm FE lens design on a Sony patent (but the real lens has slightly different specs!)

Next week on October 16-17 Sony will announce the new A7 and A7r cameras. And I finally got the info on the aperture of the two zooms:

1) Sony G FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6. This lens will be sold as kit lens with the A7 cameras. I don’t know yet if the lens has OSS or not.
2) Zeiss FE 24-70mm f/4.0 OSS lens. This lens could be in store in early 2014 only (while the Sony G zoom will be available in November).

Price is yet unknown but the Sony G zoom will cost around 300 Dollars/Euro when purchased with the camera (should be around 500 Dollars/Euro if you buy it as single item). I have been told the 28-70mm lens (when bought as kit lens with camera) is the only “low-priced lens of the FE range which includes also the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 and Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 lens.
