(SR3) Some chatter about the new A9II: 36MP sensor, close to $5,000 price tag and special Olympic loaner program

We got the A9II image but still no 100% reliable specs. The most recent unverified rumors I got tell  us this:

1) Apparently  the  number one request  Sony got from professional photographer was to  increase the resolution on the A9II. That’s why  it  could feature this new 36MP sensor
2) Sony plans offer Olympic  photographers a special free try as loaners. Just as Canon & Nikon done for a long time att the really big sports events.

Sony A9II rumor recap:
– The camera will be announced in October (probably around mid October)
– The camera has the same A7rIV body with additional dial on the left.
– The big improvements are INSIDE the camera with a very new generation Sony sensor and improved autofocus
– Unconfirmed: The sensor could have 36MP resolution and the camera price be close to $5,000.

Stay tuned on SAR!

(SR3) Venus Optics is rumored to announce a new 9mm f/5.6 FE lens soon?

Laowa 9mm f/2.8 APS-C E-mount lens at BHphoto, Adorama and at VenusLens Store.

A source told me he “saw”  the new Laowa 9mm f/5.6 FE lens. This is a Full Frame variation of the  exisiting 9mm f/2.8 APS-C lens. The source told me that this new lens is

“better than Laowa 10-18”

A couple of months ago I got these images of a M-mount wide angle prototype. It might be that there will be an E-mount version of this 9mm f/5.6 prototype?

This is the lens adapted on the Sony using the Techart LM-EA7 autofocus adapter:

Stores list the new Sony FX9 FF E-mount 6k camcorder with a price tag of 10,000 Euro

On Sept 13 Sony will livestream the next product launch event directly from the IBC show in Amsterdam. 3 years ago they did  launch the A7sII at this event but I do not think yet the new A7sIII camera will be announced  there this year. Seems pretty save guess to me that we will finally get the new FX9  FF E-mount  6K  camcorder. Plenty of stores listed the camera on their website:

EBDN writes:

IBC 2019 – SONY will introduce the NEW 6K Full Frame PXW-FX9 camera. It is scheduled to ship December 2019.

This camera can be seen as the new Full Frame, 6K version of the popular PXW-FS7 with a new proprietary AI Autofocus System (Face/Eye detection) as available on SONY flagship DSLR cameras and IBIS.

Other stores like Fotovideoshop and Proficams listed this new camcorder too.

(SR5) Spread the info: Sony A9II release in OCTOBER

UPDATE. It will NOT be displayed at the PhotoPlus show but on a separate event!

There seems to be a lot of bloggers out there that still didn’t understand when the A9II will be released and don’t get how our rumor ranking works. So here the recap of this weeks rumor:

1) On September 3th I posted this SR3 ranked rumor about the A9II possibly announced in 1-2 weeks. “SR3” means it’s unconfirmed and certainly NOT reliable as I wrote within the text!!!

2) 15 hours after I got reliable info saying the camera will be released in October. The meeting happening in 1-2 weeks is just a “closed door”event with Olympic photographers to show them the A9II. But  I repeat the PUBLIC announcement is in October.

Here is the Rumor Ranking:

SR= Sony Rumor
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

First leaked Sony A9II picture to be posted at 17:00 London time!

Stay tuned ;)

UPDATE: Readers are reporting the website has loading issue. I will also post the image on my private Instagram account in case you cannot open SAR.

Sony announced this October 12/13 “Premium event” in Tokyo

Sony Japan has officially announced a “Premium Event” for October 12/13. They say  they will display all latest gear like the Sony A7rIV, A6100, A6600 and lenses.

But I am yet not sure on that date we will see the new Sony A9II too. Currently we heard that there are multiple events with sports photographers in different locations and different time periods. So it’s hard to say now when exactly in October the A9II will be announced.

What we know so far:
100% chance Sony will announce the new Sony A9II in October
60% chance the A9II has a new 36 Megapixel sensor

(SR5) Sony will DEFINITELY announce the new Sony A9II in early October

Image on top is  just a Sony A9II mockup!

Back in early August we told you three cameras would be announced soon: 2 new APS-C cameras in late August (rumor here) and 1 new FF camera in September October (rumor here). We were spot on with these rumors and today I can share you the most “reliable” rumor I posted this year:

YES the new Sony A9II is coming within weeks!!!
I am now 100% SURE Sony will announce the new Sony A9II in late early October. I got clear evidence supporting this but I cannot for obvious reason share it to you. Trust me on this rumor I will NOT be proven wrong ;)

And now a small correction on yesterday’s SR3 ranked rumor:
Sony has indeed a smaller “closed door” event for professional Sports photographers in mid September (as reported  yesterday). But we now heard the official journalist open event will be hold in late September/early October.

What we know so far:
100% chance there will be a journalist press meeting in early October
100% chance Sony will  announce the new Sony A9II
60% chance the A9II has a new 36 Megapixel sensor

What else can we expect?
I got no info about new lenses that might be announced on that event. But I think it would make sense if  Sony would announce some new sports glass along the A9II.

So please stay tuned,  I will tell you  more about this A9II as soon as “I can” :)
